Kakko's days are numbered in NY, He speaks the truth and throws teammates under the bus

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.

I mean what’s wrong with the Rangers? A dream place where UFA love to settle, a good prospect pool (Laf and Kakko are both solid) and …. pfff, nothing.

Got to ECF once(or a few times?) in last 15 years or so, nothing more.

Time for changes to be made?

It’s like when the worst person you know makes a good point- Kakko seems to be correct here, but he’s also been a major disappointment often worthy of benching. These can both be true.

If Sweeney wasn’t an abject moron I’d be interested in seeing if something was possible between these 2 teams.

Always felt like they fumbled this guy's development right from the very beginning. To be a #2 overall going to a huge market with huge expectations that were further inflamed by Boomer Esiason relentlessly hyping him for months ahead of the draft was already gonna be a lot for an 18-year-old to bear. And they ended up having no support environment for him - really needed to have a fellow Finn on the team to take him under their wing (like the Devils did with always have a Swiss player or two around for Hischier when he came to the team). And then the kid gets off to a slow start and gets to be a scapegoat that loses valuable minutes.

His game starts to round into shape though not at the level of initial expectations and he gets continually jerked around and not communicated with.

Hope he lands in a good supportive environment that lets his late bloom take off.

Are you on the coach's side here
I don't like Kakko's comment because he's basically trying to say he's been better than other players, throwing his teammates under the bus. I don't think that's something you say publicly.

I think Zibanejad & Kreider are more deserving of the scratch than Kakko though. But I don't buy the narrative that Kakko hasn't gotten an opportunity, to start his rookie season he was forcefed top six minutes & PP1 time, he played himself off of it

This goes beyond the Rangers but it's asinine when coaches sit a player but don't communicate with them about why and what they want them to do differently.

Such a non-sensical "old school" way of thinking.

Yeah, this never makes sense to me and yet we see it happen time and time again in this league. Why wouldn't a coach pull aside the player, especially a younger player that's a regular in this league, and explain the line of thinking if you're going to make him a healthy scratch versus leaving the player guessing and often times pissing them off.

His rookie season...5 years ago? Yeah, sure Ed, okay.
