Considering that he's playing 13 minutes a night with no PP his production is perfectly fine. This season 2.1 points /60 so far. A Zach Hyman is at 1.8 despite PP time and playing with McDavid & Draisaitl, no one calls him a 30-point player.
Hyman had a brutally slow start. He is heating up now. Hyman isn't a 30 point player because he is literally has had 77 and 83 points his last two seasons. Kakko, while intriguing, has never put up those kinds of numbers. You imply if he were given the chance he'd be as good as Hyman. There is no indication that is the case. Why hasn't New York stapled Kakko to the top line if he is a lock for 70+ points?
A lot of fans claim anyone playing with McDavid or Drai aren't really that good because their numbers are "inflated". The problems with that logic include but are not limited to:
1. Other players have been moved up to the top lines and haven't put up Hyman's numbers. They can't keep up, convert their chances, etc.
2. Hyman has done it two years in a row, and is getting hot now. His 83 point season wasn't a fluke. He is going to do well again this year.
3. The bump players get from playing with top talent like McDavid or Draisaitl only ever apply to Oilers, never to players on other teams.
Kakko, isn't as good a Hyman. Bad comparison.
