I felt it was premature and could have waited,it would not have significantly increased his cap had he done what was expected of him that he has not yet achieved, whatever, it's done and this is not the thread for him, back to the Guhlster. lol

I think he still gets a similar contract after this past season (if we bridged him 1 year). If we bridged him 2 years, what happens if he scores 35 next year and the cap for 24/25 is $92M? That cost more than $8M IMO. Both Suzuki and Caufield's contract will be more attractive as time moves forward into a higher cap.

I'm OK with long term deals to guys like Slaf and Caufield as long as it's not bloated max deals. And Guhle is on the cusp of that as well. It's tricky with Guhle though. His value is deeper than just the goals/assists so I have a hard time with the long term AAV. It's possible that Guhle doesn't improve from where he is today and what you see is what you get. What is that worth?

McAvoy signed his 8x $9.5M Oct of 2021. At that stage, he was putting up 30 pts (+/-). A good question is what is he paid today if he was a UFA? Same AAV at $9.5M?

It's all too late now and can't turn back time but I leave all the speculations and what ifs behind. The sample size to some were obviously more than enough, not for me but that's how it goes.

Maybe it';s me but I find that some contracts are premature and end up hurting ,as is evident, but it's not my business.

Part of our core, great young player to build the blueline around. Can hit, unlike cupcake Harris or Barron.

So let’s look at facts, in their first two years Slaf played 39 - 82 gms, Guhle 44 - 70 gms (+9 World Cup). Guhle easily finishes with 82 this year if not for a dirty hit to the head. Yet people believe he’s injury prone????

Trading a proven young D commodity like Guhle, for the potential of picks or magic beans is not the approach of a successful GM unless the target is Cellibrini. That’s not happening!!!

Guhle is not Romanov

Guhle is not Romano.

At the same age, Guhle is showing more than Romanov. I think most would agree with that. Guhle has an outside chance at making team Canada at the next Olympics.... if he continues to show the shut down area of his game. Canada loves guys like this on the back end and rightly so.

Guhle and Suzuki could make that roster. 2 more years of maturity helps.

Anybody want to take a stab at what our Canadian D core looks like for the next Olympics? Makar, Morrissey, Dobson, Rielly, Bouchard are the front runners in terms of generating points but what about guys like Pietrangelo, Ekblad, Guhle who provide the physical area? I think it would be a bad idea to go all offense with our D. Imagine trying to contain both the Tkachuk brothers on one line.

2 more years of growth from Guhle and yeah, I do think he has a shot at cracking that Canadian roster.

Agreed on almost everything although I don't think Rielly will be there as he has lost a step and struggles in his own end as well as on the PP. I would add Power, Montour, Pulock and Weegar to the list of candidates as well.

Yeah, I only listed Rielly because he has the points close to the others. He might not be in the mix.

Will be interesting how much improvement Guhle has over the next 2 years and if he makes that roster.

Feels like he’s been a hab for 15 years but only 22. He’s 2lhd potentially, no? I always felt he got too much ice too quick. Love his game but I find 7m a lot. No idea. Lots of D coming up to commit… 6m$x4? - 5m$x6?

Two approaches. Bridge or long term.

* Bridge for 2 or 3 years can probably be around $4M-$5M range.
* 8 year term is probably $6M-$7.5M range.

Cost for players in their prime is going up with an increasing cap. $6M will be the new $4M and $8M will be the new $6M... especially when trying to lock up guys in their prime.

8x $6.75M seems like a good deal to me.
