Kucherov is a superstar but certainly, one that plays by his own rules as evidenced by his "performance" at the all-star game, sitting out till the playoffs started, rehabbing from "injury"—talking at the mic while drunk after they won the COVID-19 cup by defeating us. He is the very definition of a heel lol.

He's probably not even well-liked by his teammates but he is a hell of a hockey player and they are lucky to have him. He got away with the dirty hit from behind because of his status in the league, a 4th liner wouldn't have.

I was expecting something from our guys after the hit and we had 3 players on the roster that could have done something but unfortunately it didn't happen. Oh well, as you know, time flies by quickly and we will get him next year.
Kucherov is a good example of why it was stupid to not draft Michkov. Lets hope Michkov busts.

Very, very soft response from the team, and even worse from the league. Its a text book dirty hit.

I don't agree with this at all - they've always had push back, they don't encourage taking retaliatory penalties in the expense of winning, sure.
Where was the push back against Kucherov? They had an entire game to send a message and didn't.

They did not lean away from playing physical, they were involved in that game, they weren't going to retaliate and take a penalty. That is what MSL is trying to teach them, how to manage the game without shooting yourself in the foot by going after a guy.

I know very little about junior or college players but Hughes made the decision and it might be a good one or he may have passed on the next Kucherov. He wasn't alone though so I guess that accounts for something.

He passed on him for accounts of "defensive lapses" and "poor locker room" etiquette. All things you could say Kuch has. Anyway.

Kucherov is a POG but I cant lie, Id love to have him.

Arizona passed on Michkov because he said he wouldn't play there. SJ, Anaheim, and Columbus passed on him because of Carlsson, Fantilli, and Smith. We passed on him because of Reinbacher. We'll see how these decisions work out.

If he really did 'pass' on Zona, I'd wager him thinking he could call his own shots as a ~4th-6th overall pick candidate factored into our evaluation. Not sure an attitude like that belongs in a city as fickle as MTL.

Gotta earn it right? Go to Arizona kid! Nothing bad ever happened there? Or is it nothing good?

Maybe. It doesn't happen often that a player says where they want to play, and not play. Michkov also said he wouldn't play for Washington.

But last time I checked Eric Lindros had a pretty good career. His problem wasn't attitude. It was injuries. (though his father sounded like a handful with an attitude).

The same if McDavid or MacKinnon was the culprit, players just don't go after mega stars in that manner. Besides, the hit was dirty and should have been a penalty but I don't think that there was any intent to injure and the hit wasn't over the top dangerous.

I am not saying that I agree with not putting him through the boards but I would have been shocked to see any team really go after a star like Kucherov for a hit that was not a clear attempt to injure and did not seem overly dangerous as Guhle was not bent over and there was no risk of a major spinal chord injury.

I hope Guhle lines him up and flattens him next year and I was pissed that there was not a penalty but I am over it and am not drawing larger existential conclusions from it lol

Not saying he didn't have his reasons. It's not like I'd choose Zona as my ideal career destination, either. I'm just suggesting that it's not out of the realm of possibility that Michkov 'calling his own' shots soured management on him. Add the contract status in Russia and not being able scout him as hard during Covid and it becomes a bit more understandable to me that they passed. I wouldn't be surprised if the 'couldn't scout during covid' narrative was a convenient cover story, either.

Eric Lindros did obviously have a great career, but he was a generational talent with enough buzz to demand so much back in a trade that Quebec/Colorado actually got their money's worth. He was also a good ol' Canadian boy with 0 flight risk and built like Mac truck. Michkov's status is nowhere close, and any drama involving him demanding a move would lead to a Cutter Gauthier resolution if not much worse. No Peter Forsbergs or Mats Sundins in that return.

Whats up with Guhle? Safe to assume post-concussion symptoms to be held out this long?

We are definitely missing him on the ice.

Unpopular opinion but Guhle might be our best trading chip this summer. With contract talk lurking and abundance of LHD in the pipeline, its Romanov situation all over again... except Guhle is better. If Hugo ever feels like Kaden might become injury prone, he should flip him this summer for and equivalent top 6 talent.

I also wonder if he's worth Suzuki money like many comparable out there.

He's probably the teams 2nd or 3rd best asset, this means he's valuable to us too. Would you trade Slaf ? Guhle has similar value.

There's no team in the league that has a fit for us to swap Guhle for a forward. Swapping him for a forward also opens up a gigantic hole at 1D. Who's gonna play there ? Hutson ? Xhekaj ? Matheson? Struble ?

If right deal I might. Like a Tkachuk in Ottawa type. We have depth on left D

He has not put himself in Suzuki's salary range as of yet and the odds of him being traded are very close to zero as this is not a perpetual rebuild and he is a core piece that will be expected to lead the Reinbachers, Hutsons and Maillouxs etc of this team to the next phase. He is the closest Dman to a vet out of the young dmen that we have and will be leaned on even more when Savard leaves.

Get out of here with your reasonable, thoughtful take. I want violence!

Guhle is worth around AAV 3.5m right now, would others concur with this as correct? If so he is absolutely worth retaining and extending. He has room to grow.

Someone should have given Kucherov a stiff shot to the head with gloves on at some point during that game.
The retaliation would definitely have been in the other court.
We don't have a smart agitator on this team and it shows.
