I don't think his xGF has ever been that high. His xGF% has always been great, because other teams don't generate much when he's on the ice. It's been low-event hockey.
What we're seeing to start the season has only been low-event in one direction though. I think he needs an offensively aggressive, talented player like Chytil to help with getting into the zone with possession; but when he has that, they're an absolute menace together.

How many players a year get 60 points without power play points?
Kakko has a near zero chance of 60 points without PP.
Which has been the point I made all off season. Kakko has high end hands, good vision, and great puck possession. He needs someone to get into the zone or at least open the ice more so he can get in.
Its why alot of us thought he'd be very good with Mika + Ck. because they could do that.

There were 6 players last year who got 60 points at 5v5.
Mackinnon at 79 (17.28 minutes at 5v5 per game)
Mcdavid at 73 (16.53 minutes at 5v5 per game)
Kucherov at 67 (16.47 minutes at 5v5 per game)
Matthews at 61 (15.80 minutes at 5v5 per game)
Panarin at 60 (15.63 minutes at 5v5 per game)
Pastrnak at 60 (15.10 minutes at 5v5 per game)
Laf in 23-24 (15.27minutes at 5v5 per game ) at 42
Kakko in 23-24 (11.92 minutes at 5v5) with 2 of the worst offensive centers ever.
Kakko in 22-23 32 points at 5v5 (13.61 minutes at 5v5)
The numbers bear it out, when kakko has a center capable of moving the puck offensively (chytil) he's not far from Laf's numbers with points/60 at even strength, and he puts up significantly better defensive numbers.
Feed them both ice time, and they'll get even better.
I mean that is what the data says, that his line outplays their matchups, significantly. almost 3:1.
The eye test shows that as well.
But we've also played 4 games (2 bubble playoff teams, 1 young fast team who is playing very well)
Toronto will be a much better test.

It was not my prediction. I was replying to another poster.
To answer your question I think most players that are capable of getting 60 points will play some on the PP. KK has had some PP points pretty much ever season of his career.

I admit it’s probably overly optimistic. But two seasons ago he got 40 points (37 at EV) getting less powerplay time than he’s getting now, mostly playing on a kid line with Chytil and Laf before they took real steps… if he gets 60 I’ll be surprised but not shocked. With a little luck he could be at PPG right now. (Small sample, I know, but that’s where we are in the season)
sure, but anyone who's getting over 60 points is getting about 18 minutes a game.
More if they miss games.
You don't score 60 points without a decent chunk of ice time.
Jamie Benn got 60 points with 15 minutes per game total and 1/3 of his points (21) came on the PP.
So unless Kakko starts seeing alot more pp time, he needs more even strength ice time to get to 50+
a 40+ season with the ice time he's seeing, is actually a positive season. a 50+ with the ice time he's seeing would be a very impressive season, and indicative that he should be getting more ice time.

Oh, I think that third line will get LOTS of ice time TBH. They are playing very well.

I hope so. I really do think they should be getting the 2nd most ice time. If they dont wanna mess with pp1, then give 10-16-13 the top es time, and then 50-72-24.
Im currently wondering what would happen if we flipped 50/20 right now, run with 20-72-24 and see what happens as a 1st line

If KK is producing at a higher level he will get more playing time. If he is not producing as hoped he will get less playing time. It is not personal. Coaches are always going to want to play guys that are producing at a significantly higher than expected level more often.

I just read it. Thanks for the heads up. I did not take it as depressed but maybe more realistic about how things have gone. That is actually a good thing in my eyes. I have felt KK needed a wake up call for his career. Its good to read that he understands and he has to improve. Also good to read that he has spoken to Lav about these things. They both think he can be better. Now with a fresh slate he just has to prove it on the ice.
