Bread eater can play either wing. He can also fill in at center. His determination is among the highest in the NHL. The kind of guy who will find a role in the league until he's 40.
The Rangers don’t need scoring depth in general at this time. Mangiapane is solid, but he doesn’t fill a need and is a UFA after this season.

This thread was made a year ago and doesn’t really apply anymore, but if Kakko were to be traded it would probably be in the offseason.

Nothing going again for this guy. Trending to be one of the worst top 2 picks in NHL history if this continues. Rangers should definitely look at moving him before his value is 0.

If his value in a trade is 0, his play is not a value of 0. We have one of the best 3rd lines we've had in years and he's a big part of it. Obviously not what you want from your #2 overall but if his trade value is 0 we're probably just going to keep him.

Kakko is a much better player and had much better draft pedigree than Lias Andersson who went for a late 3rd, btw.

I don't see why a team would give up a first for him when they could potentially draft and develop a better player without giving up anything.

Kaapo being held on to this long when he needed to be moved sooner is unfortunate but his draft position means very little in actual value to others at this point whereas it just means more for the rangers and the ego attached to it.

In 5 seasons since his draft the best he's done is 18 goals and 40pts and has failed to reach at least 20pts in 3 of those seasons.

What Jesse Puljujarvi went for to Carolina is what the value likely is and Jesse is similar in production to a player like Kaapo.

Jesse is a flashier player and Kakko has better fundamentals, but their value should indeed be quite close.

Seems like Columbus should probably have something of interest to offer for Kakko, and an opportunity for him to play and see if a change of scenery rattles anything loose for him offensively.

The Puljujarvi we're seeing right now is a fairly solid winger at both ends, physical, drives the net, and has good hands with the puck - a different player since hip surgeries and now being healthy.

In any case, they should move on with the lad and get something for him how while they can and see if someone else does more with that spot in the line up and ice time.
