There is zero chance they trade Panarin this season. This is the run. If he shits the bed again in the postseason, you might see them try to flip him in the offseason.
Since bread is in control that may be the case, he insists on staying now and relents later
HOWEV
like Trouba
he MIGHT take a deal now if close enuf to Gotham he/family like so much
i.e.
Isles or better still Jersey
NJ makes sense b'c Devils might be among those offering him max $ even if only 2-3 yrs not long term.
He goes there now, gets to kick tires, see if he wants to commit there longer term

too biz to do full 'splain now, but
Rs can eat huge $$$ on bread + trouba for only 2 yrs
take back cap dump(s)
get high end cheap Ds in return

Zero use for Bread in NJ. And doesn't work cap-wise at all.

Not only because of Hughes, Bratt and Tatar, but we also have Gritsyuk coming. We have enough playmakers this year and going forward.

Pretty sure Kakko gets moved at the deadline for economic reasons. Even if he keeps improving (he’s been good so far this year) they can’t pay him with the contracts they are going to give Igor, Lafreniere and Miller.

They’ll either use him for their annual rent-a-winger (they should have floated him in a Guentzel package last season) or they can try to trade him for a Dman making like 3m or less (probably not getting ELC) that can help with replacing Trouba and Lindgren next season. Even if Mancini hits, there is going to be at least one open spot next season and Rangers have nothing internally to put there.
Does it make sense to take whatever low compensation we’ll get for a rental Kakko as opposed to keeping him through the season to help for the playoffs?

He may not be what we wanted him to be, but I don’t think having him in the lineup is making us worse. The team is all-in. Subtracting at all off the active roster doesn’t make sense.

Well. The trick is to not take low compensation but obviously easier said than done. Team is all-in but that just means if they have to sacrifice him for an upgrade they are going to do it
