Bread eater can play either wing. He can also fill in at center. His determination is among the highest in the NHL. The kind of guy who will find a role in the league until he's 40.
The Rangers don’t need scoring depth in general at this time. Mangiapane is solid, but he doesn’t fill a need and is a UFA after this season.

This thread was made a year ago and doesn’t really apply anymore, but if Kakko were to be traded it would probably be in the offseason.

Nothing going again for this guy. Trending to be one of the worst top 2 picks in NHL history if this continues. Rangers should definitely look at moving him before his value is 0.

If his value in a trade is 0, his play is not a value of 0. We have one of the best 3rd lines we've had in years and he's a big part of it. Obviously not what you want from your #2 overall but if his trade value is 0 we're probably just going to keep him.

Kakko is a much better player and had much better draft pedigree than Lias Andersson who went for a late 3rd, btw.

I don't see why a team would give up a first for him when they could potentially draft and develop a better player without giving up anything.

Kaapo being held on to this long when he needed to be moved sooner is unfortunate but his draft position means very little in actual value to others at this point whereas it just means more for the rangers and the ego attached to it.

In 5 seasons since his draft the best he's done is 18 goals and 40pts and has failed to reach at least 20pts in 3 of those seasons.

What Jesse Puljujarvi went for to Carolina is what the value likely is and Jesse is similar in production to a player like Kaapo.

Jesse is a flashier player and Kakko has better fundamentals, but their value should indeed be quite close.

Seems like Columbus should probably have something of interest to offer for Kakko, and an opportunity for him to play and see if a change of scenery rattles anything loose for him offensively.

The Puljujarvi we're seeing right now is a fairly solid winger at both ends, physical, drives the net, and has good hands with the puck - a different player since hip surgeries and now being healthy.

In any case, they should move on with the lad and get something for him how while they can and see if someone else does more with that spot in the line up and ice time.

He’s hitting that stage, where the Rangers aren’t going “out of their way” to put him into positions to succeed anymore, like we see with high draft choices.. A trade is probably the best thing for him at this point. A different approach, role, etc, maybe makes a difference for him somewhere else..

As for the Rangers? Hey, it happens. He’s certainly nowhere near a Top 10 pick, and likely not a 1st Rounder in any redraft. You can’t blame the Rangers for drafting him though. Everyone would’ve made the same pick. Did they push him too much early? Maybe. We’ll never really know though. This was a big summer for him to take another step, but it’s pretty apparent that’s not in the cards.

If he goes somewhere else and becomes a consistent Top 6 player, it’ll be because he changed some things after leaving NY. It’s time for a change though. They won’t get much in return. If it gets to next summer though, they’ll likely get nothing, so if they can get something now, it’s probably reached that point.

The Rangers still need that 3rd liner who can play up when needed, kill penalties and play a lot of those hard minutes for them. That’s what they should be looking for, from a team. Could they get a Rasmussen from Detroit? It’ll cost more than Kakko, but he’s locked in at around $3 million for the next 3-4 years. Not sure Detroit would/should trade him but maybe there’s a deal that be made for a player like him. He’s hard to play against, and plays those hard minutes I was talking about. He’s also priced right AAV wise.

It really does look like the Kakko years are reaching the end of the line though. If they can include him as part of the value, to bring in a player who is gonna help them when it counts, they’d be smart to do so.
sorry this is not accurate
he is doing fine w/new kid line, Chytil + Cuylle
as they develop chem, they will get more + more mins
bread will likely be here all this yr but gone before next when his deal expires and he does not sniff 11.6+ again from us

There is almost always an exception to a rule
but in this case
KK is worth more to Rs than to deal him, at least for next 3 years while we are waiting for Gabe Perreaut + Othmann to fully arrive

At this point just take him.

Dude is Finnish but has absolutely zero "sisu". He also uses a really short stick which makes him even more inefficient.

He also skates as well as Jason Allison used to.

Robertson, Liljegren & 1st (2026)
for
Schneider & Kakko
Schneider isn't going anywhere.

First career 3-point game, makes it 1+4=5 in the first six games of the season which with his usage is pretty good production.

Strength of schedule has been horrific but still, 5 points in 6 games is the start he needed considering his usage.

That line looks excellent. A healthy Rangers team is absolutely disgusting. They just need to fix the defense

Best the Rangers can do is 2 Jack Eichels, one Dahlin and for pegula to fund a cloning machine for a few more Kravtsov's.....

This guy continues to be one of the most underrated players in the league.

I'd love to have him on the Devils.

In fairness between injuries, his own mediocre play, and terrible offense from his C’s, he had a really rough year last year. But this year if his line stays healthy I think a lot of people will be surprised how good he looks.

Really depends on system. If a team is built upon speed/transition, Kakko probably isn't a good fit. If team plays more of dump & chase system, grinds pucks down low...and needs a good 3rd liner who can pull pucks off boards, play some defense...he is probably worth a 2nd rounder.
