Acknowledging that it's an issue is step 1. Get PP2 around 45 seconds per PP would definitely help, and keep his confidence up as well.

The PP2 is horrible every time it’s on the ice and all it tries to do is have Trouba take slap shots we do not need to give pp2 more ice time

In 2024, Kakko is 2nd in even strength p/60. He may not be a perfect fit for the current rangers top 6, but trading him might make Drury look a bit silly since he'll have the value of a 30-40 point player. Tough spot for management to be in.

Honestly, it’s not a tough spot for management at all. You KEEP him and develop an excellent long term 2 way “3rd line” unless some GM makes an offer that blows you away or until he fits in the top 6… Pan only has two more years left… and Kreids isn’t getting any younger, he might benefit from less workload in a couple of years.

We need to give it more time and take Trouba off of it. Hahaha.

Kakko is 2 years from UFA. I doubt he'll sign for any of his UFA years after 7 years of 3rd line and no PP. Every agent in the world would advice him to sign short term elsewhere at that point.

So in a year or two, it MIGHT be a tough spot. His QO is 2.4mil, unless he keeps scoring at his current rate, he won’t get much more. At worst he can go to arbitration, where he is not getting more than like 3mil for one year. If he breaks out the rest of this year, management can try to get him long term. If not he signs one year and we punt that decision to his last RFA year, even if, like I said, he goes to arb... In any case, management is NOT yet in a tough position. And may never be. We’d be overjoyed if he earns a big bump and long term contract this year or next. And if not, he will be 25 and still hasn’t broken out…

You should have stayed at least another year in Europe. You weren’t ready for North American magazines. But on the other hand, your editor should have given you more chances and let you write through your typos. Very short leash.
LMAO! You're right. Every time I messed up, my editor stopped giving me assignments for long stretches, and they were very minor nitpicks!

I have no idea why that one stuck in my head lol. I can't walk across a room without forgetting what I was gonna do
LOL. McConnell-Barker industrial turbines is my personal favorite.

Taking Trouba OFF of it, would take away the baby blanket. I mean, I guess you need to go high to low and vice versa but what we DON'T need, are shots NOT getting through and k'Andre might be better with that as there is less EGO involved.

There’s an even simpler solution. Don’t intentionally play the worse unit when the top guys are perfectly capable of playing 2:00 outside of a blowout/double minor scenario
And when the "non worse" unit is in a slump, wouldn't it be great to have an alternate functioning power play? If we had one last year in the playoffs, we may have advanced beyond the first round. They only way to have that is to invest in developing one, "worse" or not. We were 0/19 before last game, and those PP goals were scored with the goalie pulled for a two man advantage... Maybe the "worse" unit could be made better and be an actual option rather than having all of our eggs in one basket.

Kakko could still benefit from a skating improvement like we've seen with Laf. Love what he's doing otherwise.
He really needs a big summer of skating, stick handling, and working out. I think his shot is good and once he gets to the net he is okay. Despite the recent production I see holes in his skills and motor. They can be improved with hard work. Its up to KK. How much does he want it. Its not easy. The NHL are the top players in the world. KK is an easy guy to root for so I hope he gets to that next level.

He's shooting some lasers. He's finding some open space, though I think that's more of a result of team effort with his linemates. Still encouraging however.

He's still stopping/skating backwards stepovers (esp. in the neutral zone) too much which makes his first few steps even more cumbersome. Laffy stopped doing that and skates more like Trocheck now, constantly moving his feet forward. Kaapo needs every ounce of speed/momentum he can get. Skating is the key to the next step in growth.

Here
They have Kakko going in a good way right now and they need to put some trust in him.

Since hes come back hes averaged only about 12-13 min. He was very noticeable in several of those games but its hard for him to sustain that momentum. Theres been a lot of special teams play in a lot of the games and he just sits there for long stretches while Goodrow gets more ice time. An extra 2 min or so 5on5 will be good.

I really hope with the line changes they stick with Kakko up with Mika and just let it ride for a while. No Wheeler to contend with, Vesey got a shot and didnt do much. Jimmy is valuable wherever he is in the lineup but seems to become more dangerous offensively when matched up against the other teams worst. I think he will be fine on the 3rd.

So theres really no competition or reason NOT to stick with Kakko for a pretty good stretch here, until of course - they make a deal for that RW. But until then they need to give him the keys and let him drive with no fear of being pushed down in the lineup
