Ofcourse you explain why you scratch a player if you are a coach! You explain because you want the player to buy into your system or perform better. Or then you want to try a different approach to the game. There is absolutely no reason not to tell why you scratch someone. It would be idiotic! If you want to burn bridges, then its the way to go. And yes - I have coached both juniors and adults. I coached soccer, but I`d assume ppl are alike and it doesnt depend what sport it is. I still have no beef with Kakko beeing scratched, only with Gallants behaviour.

So 15 minutes before game 6, potential elimination game, you want the coach focusing on the game ahead and the plan or you want him sitting down and having a discussion with the kid to protect his ego?

Why does he need to sit down with him? Is a 30 second conversation in the hallway that difficult?

Point is the coach is probably focused on what's ahead. I've never heard people so concerned about if the coach talked to a player between warmups and gametime about why theyre being scratched. Its such a non story.

You don’t know how many discussions have taken place in that locker room between the players and coaches.

Gallants the head coach of this team. The only people he has to provide explanations to is Drury, Sather and Dolan.

These are professional athletes. They didn’t get to where they are because they’re babies who need an explanation on why they were demoted, traded or benched.

I think the issue is he isn't some scrub player like Mckegg getting scratched, it's one of your top younger players who has been on a pretty good line throughout the playoffs, so the coach should explain his reasoning so the kid isn't completely confused why he is getting punished. Again, a 30 second conversation shouldn't have been so hard, even if he told his assistant coach to do it.

If Kappo needed it he could have asked any of the coaches for it like other players over the years.

Player: Coach why was I scratched?

Coach: I just did not feel you were playing your best in the last 2 games and after 3 straight losses I hoped a change might help.

Apparently Kappo is fine with it. He said he will use it for motivation which is the right attitude.

And I'm saying it amounts to nothing but a distraction before game time

yea, well now it's the biggest story to come out of that game. So I guess he should have sucked it up and took the 30 seconds out of his busy schedule, or at any point during that day pulled him aside and let him know what may happen because now it is a offseason distraction. I mean he is the coach and all and talking to the players is part of his job..not sure what is so distracting about him doing his job.

Woah. You take that back about Kegger.

its only the "biggest story" cause there's people like you that lap that shit up like my dog at his water bowl after a long walk

even when Kakko straight up says "its no big deal I will use it for motivation next year" y'all cant help but speculate and incessantly doom and gloom about it

believe it or not there are those who agree with the coach that Kakko wasn't playing very well vs Tampa

Oh and every reporter too talking about it? So guess what, that makes it a big distraction to the team, to kakko, and to the coach.

What do you think kakko will say? Of course he is going to say that. Maybe he means it maybe he doesn't, nobody can read his mind.

Nobody is trying to argue if he played well or not, we are arguing the fact the coach couldn't give him the respect of speaking to him for 30 seconds.

Yup, which makes it a bigger distraction that could have been completely avoided had the coach did his job.

But whatever, it's done. GG f***ed up, hopefully he learns he isn't coaching in FLA anymore and the spotlight is more on him here.

Sadly because our media read these dumb boards and then posts things in their stories like its their own thoughts.

They all have twitter and other various forms of social media, they see some fans complaining about it constantly, and they're professional sports journalists. You write about what people are talking about... its not complicated

Kakko has told to Finnish media the Rangers tell him nothing regarding on how to train during the summers etc. They leave it to the players themselves.
That's false and I have no clue where you're getting that info. They tell the players how they want them to train, they provide them with specified plans for each player, and some players listen and some don't. Some guys have their own trainers that they trust. In the past kakko has not listened and just done as he wanted. Last summer he trained with ratannen. What you're saying is not accurate.

Source?

Don't you think he has a long way to go to even be at the level of your first group of players? Great to have high hopes. I have high hopes as well but for right now "you are what your record says you are" (Bill Parcells)

Yes but that doesn’t mean I’m happy if he tops out as a 50 point player.

Jesus Christ, do you think torts coddled brad Richards as much as you are suggesting when he scratched him in the playoffs? Torts was emotional to the media bc he loves Richards, but he benched him bc he felt he had a better chance to win without him. No disrespect but comparing junior coaching to professionals in the NHL is a little silly. These are professional athletes doing a job. People want to compare these "kids" to themselves when they were 19, 20, 21 years old is idiotic. These kids have been living a different life from any of you for years leading up to being drafted and then through the start of their career. It's comparing an 18 year old in 2022 to an 18 year old in 1942, apples and oranges bc of different circumstance and expectations. If I'm not doing good at my job I'm not getting coddled. I'm expected to work hard and help the org. If kakko was so upset about it or bewildered he could and would reach out to Turk, but I suspect he knows exactly what the coaches want bc they've been preaching it for years to him.

Why does he need to sit down with him? Is a 30 second conversation in the hallway that difficult?
Kakko, you haven't played well enough lately so if Stromer is good to go tonight you'll be sitting. If he can't go in warmups you're in.

30 seconds and this is probably what happened bc prior to warmups the players knew what was going on. Kakko said as much based on one of the reporters

I read it in an article from a finish paper last summer I believe. He acknowledged the team gave him plans but that he knows what he needs to do to train himself or something to that affect. I'm sorry I'm not being a dick or anything but I'm not going to go look for it. You can find it or believe me or not, I don't much care.

I mean, you just called someone else out after he said he read Finish media claiming BS from that source, whatever you read from the Finish media might be just as much BS, just saying I take that with a grain of salt. Just dont see a 19-20 year Kakko throwing the plans the Rangers gave him in the trash and doing his own thing :dunno:
