On the shift right after the second Chytil goal Chytil committed a pretty bad turnover behind the Tampa net. This was the play McDonough said "Tampa's got an opportunity if they hurry.... they didn't hurry quite enough." That was because both Lafreniere and Kakko were holding our own blueline by the time Tampa got the puck up ice. These are the types of things Kakko and Lafreniere do that they are not getting credit for. Even if they never become offensive monsters they are both showing they can play with an edge and they don't mind playing in all three zones. To see that in players as young as they are is huge. That is the type of play guys like Gabriel Landeskog and Brad Marchand showed in their 2nd/3rd years in the NHL before they ever put up big stats.
The other thing Kakko's good at is keeping pucks in the zone even when he is going the other direction, and thus keeping the forecheck cycle alive

But they haven’t been. It’s something people do to make themselves feel better about the kids. The kid line has been an adequate line that has provided a playoff team with good minutes. They haven’t been our best line as they aren’t anything special. They’re literally doing what’s expected. It’s not like the kid line is all rookies. 5th year, 3rd year, 2nd year. The “best line” notion is hyperbole. The kid line has done well for themselves. Why do they have to be our best line? Other than to make us feel better about how far below expectations they have performed, relative to their draft position and the historical performance of virtually every other player in the past 20+ years of similar draft pedigree?

I think the kid line may be our best 5v5 line right now.

They’re creating mismatches for every team. When they get the puck in the offensive zone, they’re finding each other nicely too.

Three first round picks with high upside that are figuring it out together. Makes me feel proud to watch. Especially since I’ve never given up hope on any of them and they’re doing it all on their own.

His office is down low behind the net. He’s made a lot of really good plays from behind there.
All that's left is getting open for shots and shooting. But if he turns into a playmaker and hound on the puck I won't mind. All year long I've been saying Chytil doesn't fit with anyone. Now him and Kakko are perfect for each other. Chytil can skate and be a trigger man, Kakko and Laf have been great with the puck/pressuring the D and can find him.

PS love his invisible beard that you can only see when zoomed in.

I can’t imagine being a Rangers fan, watching these kids struggle to contribute on the scoresheet for years, watching them control the play with extreme confidence on the big stage and thinking “well, let’s not kid ourselves, they haven’t been that good.” This entire line is buzzing and has so much chemistry and confidence right now. Enjoy the damn ride

To everyone who we argued with about the kid line: We will not judge you. Just come here and rejoice. They are pretty, pretty, pretty good. It's ok. You can come here and admit it without fear. I'm including you too GG. You swapped the line in game 5 and made it harder for us to advance. All is forgiven buddy. Just don't do it again.

Get pucks deep. Get pucks to the net. And, uh…

They’ve been great the past few games. Better than they had been when people were saying to pump the breaks. You do understand that acting like the last few games changes how they played prior (which was good - this is great) is like saying Kreider has been awesome all playoffs because he has 3 goals/4 points in his last 3 or me pretending I never advocated getting rid of Panarin in rounds 1 & 2 if he gets hot this series. I’m not eating crow if Panarin suddenly breaks out - I’ll be thankful that he finally decided to show up, but it won’t change how he played for 14 games.

The kid line had been good - most of us said as much. We said that, at the time, the hype was unwarranted. That has changed. It doesn’t change history, it just means they’ve taken a big step, probably due to gaining momentum and confidence in the games prior. The results still weren’t showing up, and with their track records, it isn’t hard to fathom why some people were skeptical they would. You know what a really good line that keeps the puck in and doesn’t give up chances, but doesn’t produce is called? An elite 4th line. That’s basically what they were, which would be upsetting for their shared pedigree. That’s clearly not the case now, but let’s not act like anyone on these boards is wealthy enough to comfortably have wagered Chytil would pot 5 goals in 3 games a week ago.

It took me a few games to even realize he had facial hair lol.

I get that. But back when they were only good, our other lines were not good. They have consistently kept us afloat 5v5. Nice to see them get some past the goalie to match the effort.

Everyone,

I punched some algorithms and did some maths on my Computron 2000. For the 2025-26 season, Computron has concluded:

Lafreniere: 54G 51A 105 PTS

Kakko: 32G 35A 67 PTS

Chytil: 18G 57A 75 PTS

Unfortunately, Kakko plays for St. Louis and Chytil plays for Philadelphia.

Computron 2000 has received some new information, and based on that information:

Lafreniere: 54G 51A 105 PTS

Kakko: 25G 55A 80 PTS

Chytil: 65G 35A 100 PTS

All three play for the Rangers. And this is the 2022-23 season.

You have a point, but at the same time, you were also underselling.

Kakko had a prime chance in the slot last night and opted to pass wide (the pass was broken up). I don't understand his hang up on shooting, especially against backup goalies. He needs to fire the puck more. Great board work. Great defense. Needs to shoot more.
He has to shoot more, and since coming back he has started to. But this particular example is a set play. The idea is to shoot from a pass instead of straight at a square goalie (Vally was talking about the need to get Vasy to move in his pre-series look but the same applies to other goalies). It was Chytil's return pass for the shot that was deflected iirc. Vatrano was in a similar shooting position on the ice last night, his shot worked because as Weekes said, Vasy had part of his focus on Kreider crashing the net and was half expecting a shotpass for deflection/rebound so he got caught by Frankie's top corner snipe. Kakko had no traffic and a square goalie so he went with the Chytil set up option. Maybe it was wrong but the logic was there.

unless some scumbag team offersheets him.

Yeah and we match and we make what ever moves are necessary.

He also has to sign said offer sheet. Guys aren't exactly itching to jump from teams that are contending to teams that are terrible - the latter are the teams that generally have all the space unless of course the offer is absurd.
