Makes me think - considering where this team is right now...

If Kakko comes back, regains his form and starts to impress the shit out of us with his finishing ability, could he put this team over the top?

I mean if Igor is Igor and this team can consistently put up 3-4-5 goals a game, law of averages suggest that will result in more wins than not. One can dream.

I'd start him on the 3rd line with Laf and Chytil. Then if Vatrano cools down, switch the two - or move Copp with Mika and Kakko with Bread. Good problems to have
I can't believe this team is deep enough for me not to care that Laf and Kakko are playing third line. As long as they get 15+ mins, I am all for it. The bigger discussion should be the PP. Who comes off? Goodrow?

Its pretty crazy yeah.

But if you were to draw up a scenario where these two kids were a part of a championship caliber team at the ages they are, they would be right there on the third line.

Kakko def needs to be on the second unit.

PP1
Mika Strome Kreids
Panarin Fox

PP2
Laf Copp Kakko
Trouba Miller

Maybe you could put Laf at the point instead of Miller and keep Goodrow in front. Geeze, even Chytil & Vatrano could use some PP time.

I really want him back so he can win those board battles on pp2. They get 30 seconds. They dump it in, lose possession and it's over. Would be nice to have him help us set up one chance.

Although we usually only get 1 pp and we seem to score so this may be irrelevant.

Vatrano will man the point with Trouba.

Here
Had a look and found the rangers are ranked 26 in pp differential. -15.
Thats something that will be a focus in the playoffs. Gallant needs to get them to draw more PPs. That would really back off a team 5 on 5.

But hey, we all know if its Pitt they are up against in round 1 - expect the calls/non-calls to go wildly in their favor. It seems to be a rite-of-passage for the refs in this league

Yep. Pitt is league number one by a pretty fair margin at +53. Number two is Colorado +35.

We have been getting hosed by the refs pretty blatantly lately. I don't really know what Gallant can do about that.

I wonder what the penalty numbers look like when the rangers are leading. I suspect game management has a lot to do with it. Also, so many road games. Refs, as we all know, like to keep the home team close, in particular.

Literally nothing. The rangers improved play has led to a decrease in penalties drawn. Its absolutely "game management". The leagues response to shitty referring is to remind GM's that anyone who complains will be fined heavily.
They dont mind the shit calls because it creates more artificial talking points.
The league should have the ref's provide answers as to why they didnt call something. There should be some measure of accountability, but that will absolutely never happen.

When Vatrano has 5 goals in 8 games and Copp has 7 points in 5 games, it's a lot easier to stomach to see our 1st and 2nd overall pick on the 3rd line.

It's seeing Hunt and Goodrow (who I quite like, don't get me wrong) in the top-6 that made it hard to accept.

Seeing the line actually used as a third line and not as the fourth most used line also does something for me. Under Quinn, the kid line was just a cover to scratch the kids all at once and for swaths of almost every game.

There is really no point for rushing Kakko back or forcing the issue.

Let him get 10ish games before the playoffs to get into gameshape

10 games before the playoffs is next Saturday vs the Sens. That would be a great game for him to return. If I had to guess, I'll say he returns the 12th (Canes) or 13th (Philly). Well that guess is just a dream, since I obviously have no idea, but i'm hoping.

He’s probably 350lbs by now, he needs more than 10 to get into game shape
