Fox was elite.....

If Lafreniere was elite, he would have gotten top minutes, too. He wasn't close to elite.

Your contention is that Gallant is an idiot for the way he utilized his players. Some fans believe coaches are idiots and that they know better. It's always been that way and it always will be.

For every fan that thinks Coach A is great, there's another fan that believes Coach A is an absolute moron.

In the end, it's always about personnel.
Except that sometimes you need to give a high potential player elite minutes to get them to elite. Please see hughes,j.

Fox was also in his D+4 as a rookie. Let’s see what Laf is doing in D+4. Im betting getting top minutes.

The difference is there is absolutely no one you could play ahead of Hughes on that roster. Then there's the point that Hughes could be a borderline superstar as early as next season.

If teams in the East could start a team from scratch from everyone currently in the East, Hughes would probably be the first center drafted and one of the very few who might go first overall. He is that good.

This horrible season of his he got the 3rd most assists in franchise history of this original six team. It’s insane how underrated he is by this fanbase.
With Strome gone, there is an opening for a new whipping boy for the fans and there's always at least one. There are enough idiots that Panarin could become that player.

Right. Laf and Kakko have both been pushed down because of competition, but there are clear examples of just throwing them to the wolves being the better long term decision.

Take a shot every time someone posts “Panarin still has to shake the effects from playing with Strome for 3 years” in a game thread this upcoming season. Even in games where Panarin has 3 points, but makes one bad pass. Drunk every night.

They'll call him a perimeter player after he puts up over 100 points.

Inwood
Wanna see him come into camp confident and getting as many shots as possible. Big dudes like that take until like 23 to really fill out, and he's quite the bull when he's able to turn it on, at f*cking 21 years old. We saw him do it against some of the best vets in the NHL during the playoffs. At 21 f*cking years old. Straight up robbed and dropped mcdonagh at the blue line.

Imagine him being bigger and faster? It's entirely possible steps continue to be taken. And we should all expect that.

Messier is straight up going to nut in his pants on the live broadcast rewatching the highlights of a playoff period while talking about him.

Interesting tidbit I just read:

Kakko's problem is that no matter who he skates with, they don't score a lot. He has over 310 minutes spanning the last two seasons being Mika Zibanejad's right winger. In those 310 minutes, the team scored 1.93 goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 (per Natural Stat Trick). When Zibanejad has anyone but Kakko, that number jumps to 3.15 per 60. That is a huge gap.

I mean there were also times when that was just bad luck...
before we traded for copp, kakko was the best RW on the strome /panarin line, in terms of posession and 5v5 scoring.
in his sophmore year, we were literally furious in game threads when both strome and panarin would clearly avoid passing to kakko at times.

Kakko was also moved to play with Zibanejad and Kreider because those two weren't producing at the time

KK played a lot of MPG. He just did not produce much. Hopefully that improves but he was given minutes.

Different situation.

Hughes was already their best forward. Kakko isn't close to the Rangers best forward.

Kakko is responsible for the way he plays. No one else is. Same goes for every player in professional sports.

I hope Kakko becomes great, but so far he hasn't shown a glimpse of greatness. Hughes is already a top 5 center in the East and the needle is decidedly pointing up.

If they weren't drafted one spot apart, using them in an analogy would be laughable.

Zacha, Bratt, Hischier (though he didn't play) for starters.
Hughes was already showing flashes of being much better than them.

And to counter your logic, Hughes wasn't gifted time from the start. He was either 6th or 7th in minutes for forwards. He earned what he got and quickly surpassed those players.

Kakko got the same chance with the Rangers and so far looks like trash as an offensive force, but a good defender.

He might break out, but both players were brought along slowly. Only one of them earned major playing time.

Yeah zacha was not better than hughes ahah, but it was evident from The start that hughes speed and playmaking would make him a star. He was still showing great
Things year one, but kept falling all over and Gave some juicy turn over.
Still he was having
Teamates tailored to
Help Him and was mostly featured on pp1. Showed more glimpses and was helped more
