Until one of Schneider or Robertson becomes the next Trouba. Trouba is at worst a slight overpay for arguably the nastiest defenseman in the NHL. If Fox was a left Dman Trouba would be more than capable of being on the top pair. He's not perfect but we don't sniff the ECF without him. The other 31 teams wish they had Trouba in their top 4. I take Trouba all day over the likes of Hamilton, OEL, Nurse, Burns, Spurgeon, Vlasic, Chabot, Seabrook, Karlsson, Werenski, Jones, Doughty at their respective cap hits. The list grows by the day. Trouba and Kreider are the defacto Captains of this team. Every rookie and deadline acquisition has said as much. I'd much sooner part with lindgren and Goodrow if push came to shove.

I feel like this thread has sucked through the same three posts for three years now.

1. Man, this kid was so dominant in his draft year. What happened? I’m worried.

2. You’re all a bunch of impatient, immediate gratification babies. He’s right on track and if you can’t see that you don’t know what you’re looking at.

3. He’s a bust!

Moving into year four and is the same old story.

4. He looked like one of the top 3 players on this team through more than a few playoff games and he's 21.

Sad to think that a lot of people wanted him over jack Hughes and three years later the two are on very different personal paths. Very much the same situation as Nils right now. This is a massive season for kakko before he turns into Jani Rita
He was the #2 consensus pick by EVERYONE. Stop crying about what the Rangers couldn't have done in any case, debbies picked Hughes and that was that. If you want to cry about the pick, should cry about why we didn't pick Byram who looked like a #1 stud defensman in the finals.

What are you talking about? I didn't criticize the pick at all, I know he was the consensus pick. I was saying it's sad bc there was a time it was a legit debate which one you'd rather have between kakko and Hughes but since the draft there is no longer a debate. Simmer down and read better

Did anyone really think Kakko was getting offer sheeted after what he's shown so far? I'm not even THAT down on him but, in this cap-hell world where nobody has money to risk, is anyone showing him 4+M after his first three NHL seasons vs. not giving that to someone else they have to sign? No. Think of some of the UFA/RFA's that are still out there that would not be out there at all had Covid not been a thing and the cap had gone up like it should. It's crazy. Kakko is a young man who should sign his 2ishM bridge and go prove something.

Reaves is an important guy in the room. Hunt is a valuable utility guy. I'd jettison both to sign Motte in a second.

The Rangers have about $400k in space space once you add in Blais, Jones, and a signed Kakko around $2 million.

You dump Hunt and Gauthier and you have another $1.5 to get Motte signed

That works, too. I like Reaves but he's more about personality at this point than performance. I'd rather have Hunt to plug in there and a little more cap room in March.

The hack Larry Brooks just doing his thing trying to create a negative spin when there is none. What is so hard to understand? Most teams have little money, Offer sheets are RARE, and I'm sure they would be worried about retaliation at some point. Plenty of RFA's still unsigned. How many offer sheets have been tendered so far? Nothing to see here. Move along.

I bet he is traded by the regular season starts. Shocked he isn’t signed yet. Something has to be up. He does not have much leverage
I'm shocked that you're shocked. There's nothing unusual about the fact that he hasn't signed yet. Non-arbitration eligible RFAs often take a long time to sign because there's no pressure on either side to get the deal done. The only deadline is training camp.

I'll take Chabot over Trouba all day.

Can they just make a deal with Reaves to have him retire and then bring him back on as a “toughness consultant” or “pregame hype man” at whatever salary they want to agree on?

Are there limited spots on the bench for staff? Can they just have Reaves standing there in a suit, or a Roman Centurion costume or something specifically designed to intimidate the other team?

Do we really need to waste cap space and a roster spot to do that? Let’s get innovative here.

Which means you go ahead and sign him. Looking at the trade market, it would be insane to try and think of trading Kakko and getting something of value out of him. Björkstrand just got handed out for a 2nd and a 3rd.
Was that just about the Cap?

2 Questions:

1. Do we know Motte would take 1.5 mill?
2. If he is a good signing at $1.5 mill why aren't any other teams offering it to him?

Fair disclosure I'm not in any hurry to bring him back.

the best rangers are the rangers that have no interaction with dolan...he should stick to the knicks hes doing great there

i dont believe a word of his story - hes never thought anything over or sought input for a period of time before making a decision. it was because gorton communicated to gm's around the league the front office had no part in that humiliating whiny letter and that thin skinned hedgehog got his panties in a bunch. the fact he didnt realize how bad of a look that was is incredible...such a ridiculous person
If you say so. 🤷‍♂️

I think the flames are a sneaky team on this at this point. They have the cap space and it would be a good pr spin to their fans. Calgary has their 2nd rounder so they could do it if kakko would sign.

He wants over 2m. He turned down an offer for just under 2m prior to the trade and was asking for over 2m. He had a really good run here and probably thinks someone will crack and give it to him.

I don't think his run here was that impressive. I scored the same amount of regular season goals as a Ranger 😊

Considering he won’t sniff PP or 15 mins a game, 20-20 would be a great result for him

If we can get 20 goals from third line players we will be a cup favorite.

If Kakko plays on one of the top two lines, on the other hand, that should be the minimum expectation.
