Turku is pretty small. Maybe in Finland it's considered on the larger scale but a population of 180k doesn't even crack top400 in Europe. It'd a small town. NYC has a population of 8.6M, the whole of Finland has a population of 5.5M. NYC has a population density of 10,200/km2, Finland has a population density of 17/km2.

It's still considered a city.

have you listened to the questions being asked? if i had to sit there with a straight face answering these reporters i'd look uncomfortable too

Dude, the NA media is like starving, lobotomized vultures! Fifteen mofos cornering the kid asking the SAME f***ing question 10 times! It's hard to watch. I just want him to snap.

Compare it to back home. There is usually one guy/girl, very chill, amiable, almost familiar, asking DIFFERENT questions.

Regarding Kakko's number, here is a list of jersey numbers he has used over the past 6 years:

7: 2017-18 Jr B SM-sarja
11: 2018 u20 Four Nations
12: 2016-17 u17
13: 2018 u20 Four Nations
19: 2018 u20 Four Nations
33: 2018 u18 WJC
34: 2019 Euro Hockey Challenge
45: 2019 NYR Prospect development camp
54: 2017-18 Liiga

Let's not forget 24.

Just as a sidebar... Carson City is the smallest metropolitan area in the US at 55k in population. 180k is definitely a city.

Turku is a bit smaller than Hartford which I am sure everyone would acknowledge is very much a city.

But Hartford also looks and feels like a neighborhood in a major city, its like half the size of Newark.

So I think its safe to say that Kakko is very much not from a small town... but is also now in a city very much unlike from where he is from.

Kakko is an atheist.

That may be true but he has built up a cult following already. It is only a matter of time before our posters head to the trade board saying "Have you heard the good news sir, the great Kakko has arrived to save us all. Should you be interested in our lord and savior he can be yours for the small price of 9 first round picks and your first born child"

He's just an 18 year old kid who's still learning the language and getting accustomed to the new culture, basically figuring it all out. Turku is absolutely nothing compared to New York - like a drop in the ocean. An average Finn isn't as outspoken as <insert pretty much any country> and Kakko doesn't seem like an exception to the rule. He's definitely not someone who's going on a rock tour just to promote himself. With time he'll grow up, learn the language and be more relaxed in the interviews. They are absolutely right to shelter him off the ice as much as possible right now.

Nothing else matters than getting ready for the 19-20. Got a good feeling about that and all I can hope for is Kakko to stay healthy.

Lol i was watching the NHL live guys interview Jack Hughes at Yankee Stadium, they made some shitty joke and Jack gave the most unenthused courtesy laugh i've ever seen, i think both these guys are getting sick of all this already. And its really only just begun.

Last night Kakko gave a short interview in Finnish, some things he said:

- All sorts of stuff going on but that was expected
- Hasn't had the time to see all the attention he's had in the internet and social media because he can only use his phone at the hotel (wifi) and there's so much stuff going on
- Knows there's much to do during the summer but he likes to train so he doesn't take any pressure from that
- Says he's not too stressed about anything, everything is bigger but he has a lot of confidence going forward. The draft was the most exciting part.
- Belives and can play well right off the bat, and it's only good that fans are expecting that as well

It really depends on what your idea of a city is. It's got deep historical roots, is the old capital of Finland and people from Turku are very proud of their city and its culture. That said, it's very small and a bit sleepy. Going from Turku straight to NYC is a definite culture shock, especially for an 18 year-old.

I have visited both and yes. NYC is different but that goes for any other city. I live in Vienna right now, and it's small compared to NYC. I grew up in a city called Rijswijk which has 50.000 people. Turku is 3-4 times the size of that
