Give him a couple of off-seasons.... He will be a beast. Just look at his papa ;)
I just hope he doesn't put his entire focus on strength training offseason... Look at what happened with Laine, not hitting the ice at all. He really needs to keep his skating up with is body improvement.

He said he will focus on strength and speed. Just like Laine did. They are not the same persons. I trust his training 100%. Just look where he is now after those summers.

Laine has been focusing on the same thing for 3 years now with no results and they have the same coach.

The good thing though is they are 2 very different players and Kakko is much more like Rants than Laine, who has seen development under Rautala.
But I do not understand the no skating during offseasons policy.

I want versatile off season training, off ice workouts with Rautala is fine as long as there would be skating as part of the plan as well.

I don´t know your credentials in regards of training etc but I trust the pros. I am quite sure that the NHL teams do not let their valued possessions just go train with whoever and doing whatever. I am sure we will see good results also this time so chill and let the pros handle this

Rantanen also took some skating lessons, which AFAIK has not been the case with Laine. That was my point. Barkov is another good example who wasn't really a good skater, but he took one offseason where he really focused on skating, under some figure skating coach I think (not Skinner :sarcasm:).

Laine has been hyped like hell and his every move has been followed closely.
In one of the summers he didn't skate for 4 months or so and had just few recovery skates in the end of August/early september before going back to Winnipeg. That pre season/1st half it looked like he was skating in mud.
Skating is Laines by far the biggest weakness and no real development has happened in 3 years time. They train under the same guy in the offseasons.

I really hope Kakko is smarter and adds a skating coach on top of it, doesn't have to mean all out skating exercises but working on his technique/whatever, or the Rangers sit him down and let him know what's available out there.

& Again the good thing is they are 2 different types of players, with Kakko already being the superior skater of the 2.

Barkov is a great example to watch how a bigger guy has turned a weakness into a strenght, so light on his skates today and can logg huge minutes because of it.

Rautala is there to build you strength (and he does great job with it), but the player and his club must realize there is more to summer training than that. Rantanen realized that last season, I wonder if Laine does now as well.

Hopefully Rantanen will tell Kakko to go hit the ice in the summer as well.

I think Kakko is well aware. In all the interviews he has done, he always mentions skating as something he needs to improve on in addition to getting stronger.

Rants is a great example, he's well known for his love for training and mentality.

Kotka also took extra skating lessons last summer on the advice of his agen/x, and I believe Karpat(Aho) guys rent the ice in Oulu on July's?
Then again Barkov is a great one to look up, just need to hope he asks around and is smart.

That's what they all say, but some of them go the more versatile route and some think they'll gain it just by off ice training.

Nothing against who ever he trains with in Finland, but I kind of hope he sticks around and trains with the Ranger guys this summer.

He said he's headed back to Finland after this camp. I imagine the Rangers will be in touch with him and who knows maybe he comes back early, August or something, to do some more prep and training
