While some might take this the wrong way, I love to hear that competitiveness from him.

Dear Devils,

Pretty much the entire NBCSN broadcast was a joke.

1. Pierre somehow believing Kaako is Swedish despite almost every graphic NBC had for Kaako relating in some way to Finland and the accomplishments of other Finnish players
2. Cole Caufield's "comparable" being Lionel Messi
3. Showing one ten second clip of the second overall pick vs two minutes of Jonathan Huberdeau highlights
4. avoiding speaking about Kaliyev at all costs
5. The general lazy thinking displayed by the likes of Pierre McGuire where player X from Sweden is going to grow up to be just like player Y from Sweden because all players from the same country become clones of each other
I met kaliyev...believe me...I get why they wanted to avoid him at all costs..the dude is...frightening. I asked him to sign my jersey and I swear I though he was going to murder me right there.

They had no Liiga highlights at all! They even had some USHL clips of random nobodies picked after #100 overall, but didn't have any Liiga highlights for the #2OA pick. Then of course, claiming he was Swedish and talking about his accomplishments in SEL.

It was embarrassing coverage.

I still can't believe it - well ok, maybe I can believe it, Pierre is the 'Weird Uncle' of the NHL. Let's now also add incompetent at a job where he literally has the funding and an entire team to help him not be such an idiot.

Just... Ugh.

Elaborate pls. Did he give off a Hannibal Lecter sort of vibe? lol

The fact you think people give a **** about that guy is interesting. I suppose watching finnish TV does it for you.

I guess so. Didn't know Conan's and Laugh Factory's YouTube channels are "Finnish TV" but if they are, that's fine. More power to us.

I'll be going back for the first time after 2007 - probably around September.

So not interested in seeing Kakko play in the NHL? I'm thinking more about November. That's when you can see NHL, NBA and American football all on one trip.

I don't believe Pierre actually thinks Kakko is Swedish. It was probably just a slip of the tongue. If there's one thing you can't blame McGuire for, it's not knowing about players' backgrounds. I have vivid memories of hearing him talk about Turku in NHL broadcasts before.

Haha it’s cuz he knew the rangers wanted nothing to do with him

Did they actually talk about the "Swedish elite league" on NBC too? I know they did it on Sportsnet, and the Sportsnet feed is what we got here in Finland.

Did Pierre McGuire compare him to Lauri Korpikoski? That's basically what he does, right? Compare a player to someone else drafted from the same team, by the same team

Not sure what was said exactly. I was doing family stuff and missed the broadcast. To be honest it gets rather irritating. I've grown weary of listening to McGuire minimize our picks and utter just plain stupidity while the other clown gives away the picks as the team on the clock gets ready to make it.

Just another example of the NHL being represented by knuckleheads. The optics are terrible IMHO.

By the way AK, I've not had the chance to thank you directly for all the great content you provide to us.

It's remarkable how you run all over the globe gathering great info. Kudos to you.

Also, the pod w Edge and Brooklyn was absolutely top shelf.

You could not be doing a better job if we were paying you.

Thanks again.

Pierre is usually good*

* at knowing where NA skaters went to elementary school

Then of course, claiming he was Swedish and talking about his accomplishments in SEL.

I watched the NBC coverage of Kakko's draft on YouTube once again. They say he excelled in the Finnish league. At 01:45 someone (pretty sure it's Pierre) says "coming from Turku, they have developed some really good players there, including the two Koivu brothers, Saku and Mikko Koivu". Sounds to me like he does know a little something about Kakko's background. Miikka Kiprusoff is probably the best player to come out of Turku.

I watched his Worlds highlights again with the sound off. Just remarkable.

In trying not to over think it the thing that really strikes me is just the sheer effort this kid puts out. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

If you are playing with this guy on the same line I would imagine you are compelled to work harder than you ever have...along with the whole team. I guess that's a pretty tangible intangible.

Anyway, If Kreider is still with us as the season starts it should be a treat to watch him and Mika with Kakko.

I know that Kakko's skill set is higher than Kreider's but physically they are comparable.

The speed, the physicality.

Kreider posted in front of the net. Mika waiting to pounce on the loose pucks. And Kappo just driving our opponents nuts.

That would be a joy to watch.
