His line was on fire in the first half of the game. Kakko cooled off a bit and that flu might have just been the reason why. But man has he gotten better and so fast! After the struggles in the very first games I thought it might take him ~half a season to figure it out but seems he didn't want to wait that long.

A promotion coming? The connection with Panarin seems magical.

He’s so good the Rangers should already be budgeting in cap space for him in a few years.

We’ve never really had a homegrown forward of this caliber. There are things he already does at an elite level. The dude is also all business - the exact type that will finish a season with a particular weakness, spend all summer fixing it, and come back with it as a strength.

Would be nice to see Kakko with Panarin full time right now. See what they could develop.

Elite duo's are a pretty big thing in the league today.

After the second PP goal Eddie O. said this PP is looking perhaps like the best in the league. And that's without Mika.

AV was all about finding duos that had Chemistry, stapling them to each other and mixing a 3rd guy in to see who fits the base pair.

Keep Kaapo where he is. He's facing secondary and tertiary defenders at 5 on 5 and getting his feet under him still. He's oozing confidence and we don't want to throw him against the top D in the league and set him back again. He and Le-myoo are getting chemistry and the grit is opening up a bit of room for him and they are reading off each other very well. Let him stay on PP1, continue to build confidence and rack up the points and gradually introduce him to the tougher matchups at 5 on 5 later in the season.

I don't really understand why we need to put another high skill player with Panarin. He has points in 12 straight games. He obviously doesn't need anyone else like that on his line and is fine with Strome/Fast. If he can produce like this consistently by himself that's a huge plus. It means we can do what Pittsburgh did for years and fill in extremely cheap linemates with Crosby and by doing so get way stronger depth.

He's playing with 2 30 point players right now.

Sure Lemieux is a good add on a line but you shouldn't have 2 that offensively limited guys when you are trying to build your new franchise guys game up.
Kakko needs a better top man on his line than Lemieux.
Looking at Kakko now I bet he could shine next to Panarin and keep building his game as much as possible.
Panarin would take the main pressure on that line and Kakko would get more touches in the offensive zone, while both would open up ice for the other.

When Zib returns add him to the 2nd line for match-ups instead of the 1st.

That move he made last night when he lost it and Bread scores - whoa. When was the last time you saw someone in our jersey pull a move like that at 18?

May I reiterate: He special.

Better and better every game, confidence is clearly growing in front of our eyes.

Lundqvist's, Staal's and Smith's cap-hits are gone

Come on, Kakko ain't the only guy we'll have to re-sign in the next 3 years. That cap is gonna get eaten up right away too.
He'll possibly be the only guy getting a massive chunk of the salary cap.

It's 3 years from now. Zibs might not even be a part of the team.

I dunno, the other way you could look at it is trying to get a guy to start simple and then work his way up to playing a more complex game. Being a puck carrier over the attacking blueline is a complicated play that can result in bad outcomes. Some guys are naturally better at it but are usually the guys who can really carry the puck with speed through the neutral zone (like Chytil can). I guess if anything I'd say they should work on getting Kakko the puck in stride so he has momentum to work with but he could vastly benefit from working on his explosiveness for sure. All those things said I have such a hard eye roll for analyzing an 18 yaer old in the NHL after 20 games and trying to say anything more than a direct analysis of that exact moment in time
