Lots of quotes in here from Quinn, and Kakko likes Quinn's approach to working with him.
I think this board gravely understates the amount of juggling David Quinn has to do handling all of these kids at the same time. The fact that he’s gotten so many of them going strong this early in the season is kind of amazing to me.

It’s like being a dad if you had 10 kids and could get fired, while making sure a professional hockey team wins games.

Quinn scratched him... But they just didn't let anyone know that was the real reason.
What have you done

He was out tonight because of the flu. He skated in the pre-game warmup, but decided that he couldn't play.

Get the kid an IV and some rest. The Pack have a home & home with Providence this weekend, so it is possible we see a promotion or two with players being sick and Trouba potentially hurt.

If I remember it right when Kakko wasn't getting that much playing time Quinn was never really there to tell him why.

They brought in Ruutu and suddenly his game starts to build.

I'd like coaches to sit down with these kids and explain things to them more, and not leave them with questions without answers.
Yea...so would Kravtsov

thats wrong that quinn wasn't telling him what was expected...ruutu was brought in to help him feel more comfortable off the ice. but ultimately the thing that changed is kakko scored and his confidence started to build...

quinn's comment about not talking to Kakko was obviously about not trying to overwhelm him and ask to much of him, but rather realize that he is 18 years old and sometimes you just need to let him be and let him grow naturally...he isn't actually giving him the silent treatment and not explaining things. but the way it was said the anti-quinn crowd can easily spin it as 'see this is more proof that quinn is terrible at his job'

Agreed. This generation is either lazy or very self reliant. I've coached them and with the self reliant types you need to push still to get them where you know they can be, but sometimes you need to know when to back off before you lose them. It's a different coaching skill that is becoming more prevalent with today's athletes. I believe Quinn gets that, more than he is spitefully quiet.

Oh no! This goes against the narrative that Quinn should get all the credit for Kakko heating up

I don't think Quinn should get all the credit..but he shouldn't get non either. Not many coaches would keep giving good minutes with good players to a guy who was legit the worst player in the entire nhl for most possession stats.

Let's not pretend like kakko wasn't horrible the first few games. I give Quinn a ton of credit for sticking with it...just like I give Quinn a ton of wtf for sticking with howden where he is. Sometimes he's right, sometimes hes wrong.

Oh no! This goes against the narrative that Quinn should not get any credit for Kakko heating up

i'm pretty sure the narrative here is that if anything goes wrong its cause quinn/ruff/gorton/clark suck and don't know what they are doing. if anything does well, then they still suck and it happened in spite of them
