I've written many posts defending Holl over the years, but he's so clearly in his own head and struggling every time he's on the ice. He's had some decent games this series, but that's two absolute howlers now and that means it's time to give Liljegren the nod. This is pro sports, performance matters and there's a guy coming to steal your job.

Let's go Lilly, take it and run.

He is not an NHL defenseman...he's only in a roster full of NHL players. That momentum zapping play on Hagel after Rielly scored is laughably beer league...doesn't check Hagel, doesn't stop him, and worse part is that he drops his own stick and takes himself completely out of the play.

Why is there no Post game thread ? Did I miss something?

Did you have someone on your ignore list? Is that how it works?

I think in my 23 years on here, I have ignored maybe 1-2 people. Weird. Maybe it's for the best tonight. lol

Fire in the Holl

burning Leafs chances of advancing to the next round
Quite sad that I said Holl will be one of the downfalls of this team and he is proving me right. Really wish he can prove me wrong. What bothered me the most about tonight was the fact that it wasn’t Holl getting beat due to his lack of talent but he was by far the most nervous person on the ice. Those two mistakes cost the team.

Babcock definitely has his flaws and I didn't like the way he treated Spezza, but he was 100% right about Holl...if the Leafs lose this series, a big factor will be Holl's play and Keefe for keeping him in the line-up. Mind blown that he's on for over 73% of Tampa's goals...Leafs win tonight if Holl just simply played defense.

Spot the difference! Keefe on Holl after being on the ice for 70% of Tampa Bay’s goals through 5 games of a playoff series:

Keefe on Liljegren after he spent 50~ games as our best right shot defenseman:

I agree and I am not finding a scapegoat or someone to blame but he was a nervous wreck out there the whole game. It is true that the rest of the team also grabbing their stick a bit tight and overthinking even Schenn, Acciari and ROR but none of them were at Holl’s level. It’s even look like Holl was a rookie that got thrown with the wolfs and didn’t know what to do half the time.

Justin Holl was Tampa's MVP last year and he is undisputed MVP this year for Tampa

Cooper is not gonna say anything because he is absolutely LOVING Holl's play

That's a flawed logic by Keefe...sure hockey is a team sport, but teams score by generating chances and off of breakdowns by the other team...when you have a player, who also happens to be a defensemen who keeps breaking down and bleeding chances for the opposition, then he is literally the problem.

Holl's PK work could see Keefe to go 11 and 7... If he does, that is all Holl should see. PK only.

I can only imagine the Leaf coaches and management are wondering what might have been if it's not Holl on the ice after grabbing that critical first goal...I still feels surreal that he would do what he did... Just catch the rush for christ sakes. Maybe seeing McCabe flattening people got him excited and he felt he could do it too.

Without a doubt the signs are pointing to a change with just 12 plus minutes for Holl.

Yup he was in a similar situation last year Sheldon. You f***ed him and the team over last year you're doing the same this year.

That’s why Keefe is not a good coach. He constantly bet on the wrong horses to perform.

The dumbest thing about all this (Holl playing like trash is obvious to anyone with eyes)

Holl is a UFA at the end of this season, Liljegren is someone the Leafs have in their long-term plans. And yet the valuable playoff experience is going to...Holl. I guess next year when the Leafs make the playoffs Liljegren can get his first cup of tea and be uncomfortable, what could go wrong.

Leaf land...where you only fix the issue once it's ruined your season.

Win or Lose, Keefe needs to be fired at the end of this year. The Leafs give every playoff opponent a 2 game handicap with how slow he is to make adjustments. Just like with Babcock, the Leafs are a great team in spite of their coach.

Keefe's job is on the line and he's going with who he "trusts". Can't wait for him and Holl to be gone

Don't know whether to laugh or cry, but Holl was minus 3 tonight even in his 12 plus minutes of play!

Said it weeks ago that Keefe f***ing around with Liljegren would hurt the team overall because Lily at his best is a far better player than Holl. People wanted to hand wave these comments and the distribution of ice time away as a non-factor but it’s clear now that Keefe should’ve done more to help Liljegren acclimate to all the new players and cultivate his talent.

Instead he spends most of his time making sure Holl still sees playing time, plays him with our best and most steady defensemen, and never utters a word of discontent about him. Now the Leafs are paying the price. Imagine if Liljegren had received the same support as Holl? It’s so nonsensical to spend so much effort and coddle a late 20s defenseman over an early 20s defenseman who’s shown he can handle top four NHL minutes.
