Faulk does not make sense for the Leafs. I just hope Dubas sees that.

I can definitely see it as a possibility, but again, we're going to go down the exact same road arguing about what he returns from your roster. What we want, you'll say no. You'll say Faulk+(+) and we'll say no. You'll diminish his performance while we exaggerate it. We'll diminish XX (Kap, Lil, AJ) value, you'll exaggerate it.

It would be tremendous if we can sneak into the playoffs this year and end up in a series with Tor. We're outmatched as is, but it would be delicious to watch (and read)

Sure, could be done. CAR would surely prefer to move Faulk over Pesce/Hamilton, and a return of futures is probably realistic for him. The stickler here is cap. IMho,CAR would in no way shape or form take on the poison pill of Zaitsev, so Dubas the boy wonder would have to work some magic there.

I don't think he'll be available for the price the Leafs are willing to pay. Carolina is making a run for a PO spot and trading the RD on the shutdown pair (Pesce - Faulk) for futures doesn't help the team with that.

Plus, with Panarin a possibility for Florida and Stone for Winnipeg, Carolina may have better options than Toronto in the off-season for a hockey trade involving Pesce/Hamilton. It may be beneficial not to settle for a meh return on Faulk right now.

He does nothing to address their needs which is defensive play and toughness.

It would be bizarre to see a GM go out and make a trade that does nothing to address team needs, but then again, in the summer I said Toronto made no sense as a player for John Tavares cause he did nothing to address their needs so I guess I wouldn't be too surprised.

I’d be interested in him as Muzzin’s partner on the second pair. That would involve us completely restructuring the defence though which wouldn’t be very realistic

Rielly - - - Gudas/Other
Muzzin - - Faulk
Dermott - Hainsey

Trade Zaitsev and Gardiner

The leafs cant just trade for a "main rotation" defensemen without removing one.
Zaitsev is the obvious one and Dubus would have to be a part wizard /part messiah to pull that off . Dont hold your breath between now and the deadline .

Look for an much smaller cheap depth piece with experience and plays RD to replace a Justin Holl spot .

I think this would be ideal for the leafs but it would take like 3 or 4 big moves to accomplish which seems unlikely. Leafs LH side is set but the right side is straight trash. Maybe they can overhaul in the offseason but if they are wanting to add via trade then something’s gotta give with their forwards

I’d be curious, if the Leafs sent Gardiner back over to Carolina for Faulk, what else would the Leafs need to add?
Add???
Faulk is no good.
I don't like gardiner either but Faulk sucks. No good at defence and no good at offence. At least gardiner is good day at the offence part.
Carolina has several good defenders. Faulk is not one of them.

Canes are only looking to deal a RHD in a hockey trade for a top-6 forward. Johnsson, Kapanen, and Kadri won't be traded this year so there is nothing to discuss. Toronto and Carolina are poor trading partners given their current spots in the standings.

Are you still saying that the leafs didnt need Tavares?

I find it odd that most Leaf fans are so turned against Faulk. He’s been miles better defensively this year and he’d instantly be the best option on the right side. I actually think he’d be a better fit than Hamilton, though not as good as Pesce for TOR’s needs.

Yeah, he was trash defensively last year, but he’s had a resurgence this year and has been very reliable in all situations. He’s a top 4 RD in his prime on a good deal. I think he has more to give offensively as well.

Anyway, seems like most folks minds are made up. I could easily seem him fitting in on a pair good for 22mins a night with either Reilly or Muzzin.

I guess there’s always the bias towards your own team’s players. Somewhat akin to TOR fans speaking up a guy like Johnsson.

I don't think Toronto is catching Tampa for this to be a possibility.

I'd like to imagine it possible though.

A UFA defenseman has less than zero value to our team. We have not had great success signing needed UFAs and we don’t need any defensive additions. The add would have to be exactly the same as if he weren’t in the deal.

do we have the assets to move to acquire all these pieces?
I figure we gotta give something good to move Zaitsev's contract, Gudas is prob do able for a 2nd +, Faulk didnt they want a 1st for him?
