Let's say he finishes with ~20 goals and/or ~40 points. What kind of deal do YOU as a GM give him? He's clearly getting a raise unless he falls of a cliff. 2/2? 3/3? For the record I like the player and hope he continues to get better and play well, but not sure I'd throw a checkbook at him (relatively speaking). A bridge deal to see if he's a fluke or not seems reasonable.

Let's see where he actually finishes.

Watching him, though, he doesn't seem flukey. NHL defensemen are really having trouble handling him. And he appears to have great hands.

Yeah I don't think he's a fluke either, just a late bloomer who has worked hard to get where he is. It will be interesting to see how the season goes for him.

And I don't think it's much of a stretch to say he actually is the 2nd best goal scorer on the team right now.

All 4 of his goals have been "goal scorers" goals. Great tip-in yesterday, Saturday a bullet on a one-timer. Thrives in the dirty areas. Makes heady plays. Hoping he stays healthy as he's not exactly an elusive skater.
I’d probably say 3rd even with Marchand starting slow. Still the point still stands. He is really playing a critical role. I definitely think he’ll keep his offensive pace if they keep him in the middle 6 with pp time. I love the way he controls the play in the o zone particularly down low. His skating seems to be drastically improved. He’s still going to be the last man back but he seems to be closing the gap a bit. His crossover in particular is vastly improved and it’s noticeable.

I think he could actually go much higher if he can continue to improve his skating.

The problem is he'll be a 27 year old UFA at the end of the year. UFA's get market value. They will need to sign him early to prevent teams from jumping on him this summer.

Who are some breakout-at-26 types that signed recently? They'd be the comps.

Edit: Maybe Dakota Joshua's $3.25m for 4 years.

Look at the faith Sweeney had in him, when he did.

I think you'll see we'll get him, under market
