Most people's brains just don't comprehend massive scale changes unless they have been educated to see it. Things just don't behave the same with massive changes in scale. For example, that answer is partially correct, but in addition to the multiple bird pieces going through the engine, now you likely have "cage" pieces going through it as well because a 2 pound bird going a relative 200+ mph goes caves in any bird cage that is also light enough to fly and open enough to not drastically restrict airflow to the engine.

Also I think a lot of people are in disbelief that a jet engine can pick objects off the deck when the engine is that high off the ground (I don't know what model plane this was but most commercial jet engines are between 5-15 feet off the ground). I was in the Navy and have seen that training video of a 200lb man getting yanked off the ground into the intake of an Intruder that was at maybe 50% power getting into position on the catapult.

Don't think most people realize the amount of force jets have. Also every single day before the flight schedule started at sea and on shore (sometimes multiple times a day) we did FOD walk downs where we would scour the ground and pick up every small object we could find to keep them from causing damage from getting sucked in.

Holy shit!

Edit: Wow, comments say he survived.
He did. If I remember correctly he had over 100 broken bones. The deck crew helmets are called cranials and have two hard plastic pieces, headphones if your job requires and goggles. I think I heard he got stuck and it ripped his cranial off and that's what went through the engine causing the fireball out the back and fortunately for him shut the jet down.

My buddy has a fake owl on his dock, it’s pretty good at keeping birds away maybe they should try one of those?
