It's just another sign of what this organization values.

Similar to Grant and Thompson, it's not so much as playing 1 guy - but playing both... Is asinine.

Hagg and Braun full time isn't appealing, especially with one likely to see a promotion into the top 4 in case of injury.

Like always, the bottom of the roster guys do matter. Organization doesn't seem to care. Team speed? I'd wager it's rarely ever talked about.

I think you have that reversed. Hagg is going to look more like the top one than the bottom one when we re-sign him.

People always want to act like these "depth" signings don't matter and people being pissed are overreacting, but the reality is they are bringing back the god awful 3rd pair because they like them.

They are not putting together a 2020 hockey team, period. You cannot be a contender with braun-hagg.
of course it matters. But you don't get to sign 25 first line players.

I think we were all looking forward to a talent like Patrick getting 3rd line matchups. Then, health issues.

They can't all be Zingers.

That's just because some people can't admit the staff is trash, so they'll turd polish anything they do.

Reality is, the team just got worse with this signing. Everything matters, even depth signings.

I HATE having Hogg and Braun back,

but As of now Thompson is gone and Ghost is back in lineup, how are we worse ?

Exactly what RHDs who can PK are out there for the taking?
Moves have to be judged relative to alternatives and cost.

Hagg and Braun are known quantities, they're cheap and they're fungible.
Worse players are moved at every TDL for actual draft picks.
So they don't preclude other moves, they just provide insurance.

Zamula, Wylie and Hogberg can't be written into the lineup right now.
Friedman is a question mark, maybe he steps up, maybe he doesn't.
Ghost is an enigma right now, are his knees 100% (or is it a chronic condition that will require days off), can he get his mojo back?

what was the point of immediately rushing to sign braun? Its not like he was going to sign immediately with another team...stupid reaction by Fletcher. There are plenty of options for bottom pair and he just goes and signs braun ffs

Based on what we have seen with Zamula in TC and his play in the RR, he looks ready to start his career in the NHL. Putting him on the ice on the third pair with a steady player such as Braun could work well. Braun is fine as long as he doesn't have to be the stick handler. That was the problem with Braun-Hagg; both of them don't handle the puck well and cana be easily forechecked into bad mistakes.

You can also aspire to do better than bottom of the barrel off the glass and out types. In fact multiple are floating around the roster already

We're better without Hagg and Braun than with them. Until a few minutes ago, we weren't bringing back Braun.

And we have no idea if Ghost is back. He could still be traded.

Your probably right, but on paper we are better as of now.

Trading Ghost for a forward, prospect , or pick now would be IDIOTIC. And don't care who it is

Quick thought regarding development.

One of my pet peeves for years was that the club decided to have Andrew MacDonald as its "mentor" for the kids. I'm sure it was seen as a positive.

With Zamula and perhaps York looking to jump into things at some point here, playing them with Hagg or Braun on the bottom pair is very much a trial by fire. It's why having Niskanen in a reduced role would have been okay in my eyes.

Whatevs. Apathy reigns supreme.

there's no way we trade ghost now. Who will play in the top 4? We have no other options other than ghost and he ain't returning a top 4 dman + we aren't signing a top 4 d.

No, we aren't better on paper. A week ago we didn't have Hagg or Braun signed. Now we both. That's worse than nearly any other possible alternative. We'd have been MUCH better without signing anyone and just using guys already under contract.

And yeah, it would be idiotic to trade Ghost. Just like it would be idiotic to re-sign Hagg or Braun. But here we are. With an idiot GM.

I'm willing to admit....I don't have the full picture of the decision making logic going on. I think alot of people just see the result and hate it. Eventually, the results have to win out.

I've been in enough life situations to know sometimes you chose between a douch and a turd sandwich.

Desire and result are not always the same thing.

And just like that a pairing's dish was discovered...

brawn_for_offal_project.jpg

I give you Head Cheese. Also called Brawn. Made from Pig or Hog discarded parts.

Everytime this pairing plays we will be graced with meat jellies and jealousies as our eyes, ears, tongues, feet, hands, and all sorts of awfol get mucked about from spectacular play.

Don't mince my words, hoggbraun head cheese is here to stay. I may even request head cheese on my next cheesesteak. And when they say "what dah f*** is headcheese" and I'll say "well, Hagg and Braun of course..." and then the clerk will stare dumbfoundedly as I regale her of stories of pheasant ingenuity in cousine.

Our Haggulous Braun will be so pungent that the pair will fester together as Fletcher fetches a spectacle far better as headcheese will be a special teams corrector. Michel Therrien is already plotting a Braun Hagg PP1.

Can't say I blame him. Head cheese, or Hog Braun, is a dish only served cold with no dairy. No lactose to toast is not all bad though...it includes gelatin. The very ingredient needed to help the Flyers glisten to a Stanley Cup win.

They've used Hagg and Braun in the top 4 in the past.

They're stupid enough to do it again.
the signing, at least to me, indicates they want hagg-braun as the third pair as both are signed for 2 years. Pairs will be moved around as they always are but I think this is what they will go with for majority of the season.

I think we definitely get ghost in the top 4. Always one step forward and two steps back fml

My feeling towards Braun deal is similar to Brian’s. Below market value, and probably better then being forced to overpay for leftover scraps.

Hogg was a RFA, think that has more to do with the 2 year deal I think
