I think its just emotionality and ptsd more than lack of lucidity. The wright bias, the desire to call the next big bust, impatiencre... a lot of those guy who flopped on Slaf have great takes and are usually pretty clever in other threads.

Its just that sometimes things are obvious and it was not the right prospect to bet against.
Using emotion to evaluate is preposterous.

Of course it isn't done in good faith. Why are you surprised? Habs fans like nothing more than to snipe at other Habs fans. Was it UdeM or UQAM that taught a course called "The Religion of the Montreal Canadiens"? It's absolutely true. You see it with our local media -- they openly root for the team to succeed even going as far as trashing other fans for not being supportive enough.

It comes with the territory. We have a large, loud, politically charged fanbase that also likes to eat itself.

I definitely have been a dog with a bone with Slafkovsky so I'm not saying I'm any better but I don't think constantly hitting at other fans is appropriate outside of disagreeing with specific arguments. I think Jaynki disagrees with a variety of arguments but she/he also posts their arguments in return, so it's fine to argue and discuss. Bring your points and evaluations and let's have some fun. Ignore the noise.
If anything I find you keep everyone interested and posting.

Right now I’m just happy I get to watch him play again tonight :) haven’t felt that since Caufield 1st call up… heck probably goes back to Subban before that.

This. There’s no reason to have been optimistic after last season’s record-setting (negative) showing.

Hopefully he continues to grow — no doubt he will — but the points need to come. He’s playing better than ever so now we can evaluate his playmaking (and improvements to) without handicaps and filters.

I think what people are telling you again and again is that you have every reason to be optimistic when a kid is 18 or 19z

I just named those i remembered on the top of my head, there were many many others.

Sorry if you received it as toxic or if i offended you. I have been mocked a lot for saying things like exponential, parabolic growth and that is part of the debate and fun of an online forum in my humble opinion.

But just liked i have been mocked on it, i think we can freely mock the dude who argued we were f***ing with slaf underdevelopped pre frontal cortex. Its as funny no?

We here for fun and we are all happy with Slaf after all. We all share the same objective which is habs success.

This is fair. If you were feeling attacked by what I said in the past I apologize. I’ve been a Habs fan for almost 30 years now. Trust me, it’s not my agenda to see a number 1 pick for this team fail just to be able to say I’m right on the internet. Most of my concerns I feel were more then fair.

Fully agreed. Now that the game is not chaotic, we have to see some good playmaking. No happenstance points but actual protagonist-style playmaking. If we see that, then I think the next step is achieving consistency and then the project is on track.

The reason I'm so caught-up on this guy is because I hate tanking, and I hate roster deconstruction, and I hate seeing the Habs get a 1OA and do... this with it. If he succeeds then that's bloody fantastic. Let's hope he bloody succeeds.

You have not accused anybody of toxicity and I can attest to that. I've bookmarked a few of your posts in case you're wrong ;)

Under-expect and over-praise, that's the Habs way.

People aren’t attacking your positions because you are a habs fan.

No problem. May we enjoy habs success rather sooner and have another debate where we can laugh a bit at eachother takes.

I've knocked Bustlovsky a lot, but he's been great the last few games. Maybe if he wasn't in an org that scratches their tough players, and sends the others to Laval, the kid would be able to develop and not have to fight. I don't know of any other org that would take away team toughness and think its ok for your #1 pick to drop the gloves instead lol. MSL and Kent clearly are confused

To play devil's advocate, he didn't need to fight. He initiated that. If he was just defending himself that's one thing and you have a point but that was clearly not the case. Good on him tho

It's a lot of fun to watch him start to blossom into the player we saw flashes of. Most exciting thing is he still has so much room to grow and so many remaining rough edges/low hanging fruit type of things to fix that will just come with time and coaching. There's definitely still going to be ups and downs but it feels like the lost puppy stage is over for good now.

I don't know if Slafkovsky will be elite and I assume nobody here does. It's not clear where will top out in the 70-110 point range.

And if the NHL expands to 40 teams, Slafkovsky could hit 150 points !!!

Even if he doesn't become 'elite',

With his size, tools and tenacity (assuming it continues to blossom) he should still become one ANNOYING SOB for any team to play against in the playoffs.

That alone is absolutely huge.

That’s what I see. He’s something very special whatever happens. But it would be a Huge Bonus if he could also become a solid point producer. It kind of sucks to see the one guy that generates opportunity after opportunity mutating into Jake Evans every time he only needs to finish.

The thing he needs to work on the most for me is being proactive, especially on the PP. He stands still too much on the half boards, often times there are loose pucks in the corner or close to the net and he doesn't go to them, waits like Ovechkin. But I think it'll come, he just needs more NHL PP experience. And hunger.
Totally agree, he is a statue on the PP, would like to see him work to get into space. Love that they keep giving him PP looks and suspect he figures it out, but today, he is not much of a factor on the PP

It would be truly extraordinary if Slaf went near-ppg this year. It would electrify the fanbase and likely propel us into a playoff spot too. Basically, it would justify the 1OA and have him give us the effect of the 1OA for which we tanked. It's a long season and anything can happen on that front.

I didn't like the discourse that downplayed expectations and standards for the player, I found that bullshit and unfair. To your credit you never downplayed the upside you saw in him. If only some other commentators would be as consistent. Those who said they expected 50-60pt upside in his prime were full of crap, nobody expects that from a 1OA.

Everyone hopes for PPG+ from a 1OA but that isn’t always going to be the case. If I’m not mistaken, from 2010 to 2020, there’s only been 3 PPG players. Granted, a couple picks were Dmen.

I want Slaf to be a PPG+, but to be honest, I expect 60-70pts but playing the physically dominant style he’s been showing lately.

Everything happens on the left for some reason… since he’s been on the PP1 it seems like Matheson is evolving the right side less.

He definitely hasn't looked like a low IQ player.

He definitely hasn't looked like a low IQ player.
I'm gladly eating crow right now I just hope he keeps it up. Someone needs to help him how to shoot the puck better, but nobody on this team knows how to lol.
