He needs to talk less. :laugh:

I don't see him being Tkachuk. I do see him having some physical aspects to his game and I see him becoming an agitator. He's going to do a lot of the dirty work for whatever line he's on. But he's a really good passer and when he actually gets his shots up he's a really effective player.

Slaf won't be that good but he can be effective playing his own style. I'm good with how he's developing. It's going to take a while with him.

Ooh, I don't know about that LG. Larry was more Shea Weber than Slaf. He did show courtesy on the ice to injured players but if they dared go in front of the net there would be bruises.

Right, he could play nasty when he needed to. That's where I think Slaf will be. He'll be far more Robinson like than Pronger in that regard.

Saying that because of size and need? He really is a gentle giant, I’ve seen him hug a guy who had not seen him coming instead of laying him out to protect him like they were a teammate in a summer practice.. He’s just a nice kid I think.

I’ve seen the faces and chirping after goals for example.. Nothing to scare a grown man if those still exist.. I’m biased I guess but compare him with 220lb guys we grew up with (McPhee, Lemieux, Corson…) he’s marshmallow.

edit - McPhee was only 205, played bigger imo

I must have hung around too many loose cannons in my life lol (bikers, bar brawlers…). I’m more afraid of Domi the shrimp for example.. Last hab forward that would have scared me if I got him pissed in a bar I can’t even remember. Even Laraque was a gentleman..

Edit maaayyybe a drunk Corey Perry I would have been afraid of a cheap shot with a pool cue of something..l’m still going back through rosters…

Selanne was two years older than Slaf and began his career in the biggest offensive era of all time. We're talking apples and oranges. Also, Selanne never came close to repeating those numbers from his rookie season and still had a Hall of Fame career.

In any event, development cycles are not linear. The poster you responded to mentioned Nathan MacKinnon because he had 53 points in his 4th full NHL season and was pointing out to another poster that it's premature to think what we see out of a player who just turned 21 is what we're going to see out of him in his prime. It's not just premature to think that way, it's plain ignorant.

I definitely expect a 21 year old to get better over the next decade if that is your point.

Mine is that using the best player in the world as a comparative to prove Slaf will somehow break out is not a probable projection.

Average nhl age multiplyer for performance would probably be closer.

Slaf needs to be balls to the wall it well have a chance of winning. Hes so inneffective when he starts thinking. Marty needs to be waaaay harder on him.

He seems to become complacent if hes not kept honest, a bit like Armia. Monday he was always playing from the tip of his stick, friggin annoying.

Also I suspect Slafs physical game benefits from Xhekajs presence on the ice, or am I dreaming? Id be curious to see his hits with Xhekaj in thr line up and without.

Slaf needs to not hit the brakes when he hits people. have you noticed how he does that? He led the forwards in hits(not sure) but few of them were big hits. I would love to see him be more like Anderson than Tkachuk. He has great passing skills but needs to play a bit more recklessly.

Never forget Shea Weber is the only player in history to have used a players head as a ballistic test projectile.

Also Chiarot, Guhle, Andy and AX are animals.

Yeah he hits like Edmundson used to hit, stats padding at best. I dont recall on hit that even made a bit of noise.

Nobody said he'll be MacKinnon. It's just being pointed out how early in his career he is. His development cycle is on track.

Also big players often take longer. Tage Thompson was 24 years old when he hit Slaf's current production level. John Leclair was 25.

Yeah, which is why I mentioned forwards.. Weber I would havd been on my best drunken behaviour around lol. Andy looks like wires touch you’re right, but seems so shy in real life.. At least they have Andy.

Andy was injured a lot but he was an absolute menace in his CBJ days. Now theres glimpses, like when he whooped Wilson.
