Player Discussion Juraj Slafkovsky Discussion

I stand corrected on the stick lift, I hadn’t seen that angle on the replays @Redux91. Thank you for the other angle @bbfh (I can’t quote your post for some reason). Slaf did indeed play it perfectly but all the same: he wasn’t screening the goalie, he was playing the defender.

Slaf needs to not hit the brakes when he hits people. have you noticed how he does that? He led the forwards in hits(not sure) but few of them were big hits. I would love to see him be more like Anderson than Tkachuk. He has great passing skills but needs to play a bit more recklessly.

Except if you play more recklessly it leaves you open to being exploited by getting caught out of position if the player you're targetting for your hit manages to pass the puck just as you're really laying into him.

You can also get penalized for those hits, or potentially even cause an injury and long suspension for yourself if things don't line-up right on a hit along the boards.

It's not that simple.

I think Slafkovsky needs to be more assertive, yes. On that I agree.

But I think that being more reckless isn't the best way for him. Slafkovsky just needs to start gaining more confidence on both sides of the ice, and more poise, as the game will start slowing-down a bit for him in that case, giving Slavkovsky time to make better decisions on the ice and also more confidence overall.

21 is still very, very young for a big forward, and baby steps can morph into giant strides at that age for young pros.

I also don’t remember many blow-outs where you build a reputation for yourself sending guys to the locker room, even if not his style. If you know a guy plays dirty that gets you thinking. He genuine seems to be afraid to hurt someone sometimes.

Anyhoot; I still love the player and how his big body and great hands are part of an awesome 1st line.

I have to be so careful how I word things here because it becomes the basis for a reply. I just want to see him use his body to deliver hits in a way that leaves a memory for the guy receiving it.

He slows into a hit, which is the opposite of the way Anderson does it. He has 5 times the talent of Anderson, and I feel if he added more bite to his game he would become a menacing player for the opposition to deal with.

So, literally, you hate Slaf and wish him misfortune ? Wow, really he's 21 years old!

Slaf uses his frame, strength, reach to retrieve and win pucks all over the ice, hitting everything has never been his game and it doesnt have to. His game is all about over powering his opponents to get that rubber back and generating possession, forcing turnovers ect. Im kinda surprised alot of people still havent figured out that dimension of his game. I could take his next 3-4 games and make a 5-10 minutes video of him doing all this and some people would still argue that he isnt a real powerfoward, what I find laughable at that point.

Yes, I know how he plays but that's the regular season and it wouldn't be the end of the world if he layed a big hit to fire up his team.

Well, I don't know if you thought I was gay, and I want to add someone who didn't but you haven't been mean to me so I will leave it alone.
lol; I highlighted the first sentence I spotted seemed coherent and funny because you opened the door with your first sentence (at unfair replies) and the boys were giving you a hard time…

Also being gay is so mainstream and normal to me it would not occur to use that as an insult you studmuffin.
