Patriots/NFL NFL Patriots Off Season - The Draft

Hollins was very much a McDaniels move. He was WR2 on his 2022 Raiders team. He also offers special teams value and leadership.

Personally, I wouldn't have signed him, but that's the logic behind it. I'm not sure they knew they were going to get Diggs when he signed and also felt they needed to add someone to the room. He's pretty cheap, but his guaranteed money is just enough where it would be a surprise to cut him.
They are creating rooms

That Polk, Boutie, Baker group is a shit show

Add Adults and they did

I turf Baker & Boutie ~ At their core they got to much to say with no resume

Third round I’m taking one of
Tre Harris
Jack Bech
Elic Ayonanor
Kyle Williams

My room locks
Diggs
Hollins
One of Above

It’s the safest and likeliest pick. Boring, but fills a huge need.
I won't be weeping tears of joy when he's picked, but I think there's a reasonable chance that he'll be someone the Patriots can stick at LT for the next decade and not have to worry too much about whether or not he can block the guy in front of him.

He's got to be better than Vederian Lowe in the short term, no? And even if he's not the long-term answer at LT, it sounds like just about everyone thinks the worst case scenario is that he'll be a really good player at LG, which obviously isn't ideal for the 4th overall selection, but isn't worthless, either.

One of the things that fascinates me about the Campbell discourse is that there are OLine "experts" downplaying the arm length concerns, but then when you look at the comparables, they basically all play guard or center. If it's not a big deal, why do all similar players end up not playing tackle? What's unique about Campbell that makes him a "realistic" outlier? We can talk about the tape, his stance, his feet, his athleticism, but is he really so much better in every other area to be able to achieve outlier status? I don't know.

Also, I thought it was interesting to hear someone the other day talk about guard as a backup plan and how his upright stance makes them question whether he's capable of playing as low as guards need to. That, of course, could be fixable, but I thought it was an interesting perspective that it wasn't the slam dunk backup plan some seem to suggest.

I think he graded out as like the 17th best athlete out of over 1000 tackle prospects over the last x amount of years, something like that. So his athleticism. That and work ethic/character

I've seen Rashawn Slater and Bernhard Raimann both mentioned as comps to Campbell, and neither has had much of an issue sticking at LT.

basically if you're quick enough off the snap getting out of your stance you can make up for shorter arms out at tackle. so quickness and footwork

So let’s get this straight, we went from having the number 1 overall pick and not only screwed that up, but we are about to draft Will Campbell?

This team is a f***ing joke

And won’t be making the playoffs anytime soon

We're gonna miss out on the two best players, therefore our consolation prize is Campbell.

It's on Mayo and Milton and the team for playing that last game like it was the superbowl. Mayo knew exactly what he was doing.

I like Campbell but taking him at 4 just hurts my soul.

Picking Will Campbell at 4 is organizational malpractice. He is not an LT in the NFL. It doesn't matter if you like him, the measureables are what they are, and there is a pleathora of evidence to support it.

And the more concerning one...

If your goal is to cement the RT position for a decade for whatever reason, draft Membou instead.

Can't blame the players. It's on Kraft for letting Mayo shit on the team on his way out the door.

Please no Campbell.

I'm pretty sure they're gonna have to pick someone when they're on the clock tonight.

Campbell seems like the most logical selection from a group of flawed choices.

I'd rather they draft an impact player like Jeanty or trade down if the alternative is Campbell.

He isn't going to be the unicorn player that breaks the mold of short arm tackles, and even if he ends up doing it, why are the Patriots who have so many additional needs, going to be the team to take that swing given their roster, and everything else.

I'm a big proponent of taking best player available and it's hard to believe that's Campbell at 4. At 10 as a guard? Sure. If they can't trade down I say f*** it and take Jeanty.

Jeanty isn't going to be an impact player if he's running behind a line that's still 32nd in run block win rate and 32nd in yards gained prior to contact.
