Player Discussion Juraj Slafkovsky discussion

Hughes said in an interview that part of the reason they rushed Slaf to the NHL was that they didn't want him to be overly reliant on his size, which he would be in lower leagues like LIIGA or AHL.

But then Hughes apparently also said that they don't want Slaf playing like Patrick Hughes, they want him to use his body and his power more.

To me that doesn't add up.
He was a big skilled finesse player when they drafted him. Wanting to change the player at 18-19 years old into something he is not seems like a bone-headed strategy tbh.

Sure appears he’s going the same way as Galchenyuk and KK.
Way too soon to jump to these conclusions. He looks like the 3rd wheel on his line atm. Let’s give the kid some time before we do this.

I’m not too concerned yet, although this season is not what I had hoped for. UPS and downs will happen.

That was a terrible top end of a draft. Already 4 of the top 10 picks been traded. They all are floundering. Redo draft Slafkovsky probably goes #2 overall.

He was rushed, looked okay, given the big contract too quick then back Peddled.

At 20, I think he will improve.
Cutter Gauthier is older than Slafkovsky and is having a fine rookie season with 23 points but Slafkovsky is a bust with 29 points? Doesn't make sense.

He is 50-60 point second line power forward.

He played pretty well after getting demoted. The mistake he made was so bad though hard to ignore that kind of brainfart.
It is actually interesting to watch whole sequence when Point pick up the puck behind his goal. Slaf and Matheson are actually only two players who did anything there. Caufield, Suzuki and Carrier were like chicken without the head. Terrible decision by Slaf, but his linemates did not help at all.

If a 1OA becomes 50-60 pts second line player then he is a bust.
This is that a bust called Kotkaniemi (3OA) is. Second line center hoping to reach 50 pts in his best season.
This is what a bust called Dach (3OA) is. A second line player dreaming about a 50 pts season.

Who cares about the points, and is Cutter attached at the hip to players with the same caliber of Caufield and Suzuki?

20 years old Zegras did 21 goals and 61 points

People should not come to conclusion about 20 years old players. Wait until they are at least 22 but even better to wait 23.

No conclusions have been made by me, FWIW.

I'm just here literally vibing breh, living in the here and now, commenting on the here and now.

I' rather have Zegras than Slaf, and I'm no fan of Zegras.

...OK...shall we bookmark this??...make a friendly wager, perhaps??... :thumbu:

I didn't say I would rather Zegras,

I am just trying to empathize and understand why someone would rather him over Slaf.

The offense angle makes sense, however he is older, smaller, and is struggling right + a headcase...
