Player Discussion Juraj Slafkovsky discussion

Slaf will be considered a bust if the Habs have to wait until 2032 for him to be productive.

When a team drafts first overall, they're not picking the player so that he contributes in the very distant future.

2032 is very far away. By that point Suzuki, Caulfield, and Guhle might all be retired, President Vance will be running for re-election, my youngest will be in third grade, we might have Mars colonies, and my body mas index might have reached triple digits. We shouldn't have to wait that long.
Depends on what is your expectation is when you say productive. If being productive is 60 points, I'll bet money that it won't take until 2032. But it will take until 2032 to determine if he was the best player of that draft.

FTR, Wheeler as late as it took him to breakthrough is 3rd in scoring for that draft class behind two future HHOFers.

He would he so much more effective if he was at least a threat to shoot the puck. I don’t know why he refuses to shoot the puck.

TSN was showing a stat yesterday where over the first 173 games of their career, Jack Hughes had 200 more shots than Slaf.

I just can’t fathom being so enamoured with any of the other top picks in 2022 that I’m going to deal Slaf after 173 GP.

Let’s send Guhle away for some sweet, sweet Kakko

So,

You think they should trade him?
Before trading him the management and coaching team should sit him down and demand more. 2 hour meeting with tape of his short comings, it's mostly lack of effort anyway and explain we need more, not the points but the effort, if not you will slide down the line up and get bag skated until you get good and pissed, from there it is your choice, put out more or ask for a trade, dismissed.

Depends on the estimated trade value.
No… that’s different. If someone comes to you offering McDavid and you take it everyone will agree. I’m not asking what you think his value is.
"Actively shopping" is not a category.
Right, it’s an action. And I’m asking if you’d be taking this action now. Would you actively shop him?

It’s not a gotcha question man. Have you given up on this guy? Do you think we should start looking around?

Nice to see Slaf away from Suzuki and Caufield. Dvo and Gally might not be the best, but at least now there are three players that work hard on Slaf's line instead of one.

Leafs can play without Matthews, Wild can play without Kaprizov, Tampa can play without Kucherov... but we can't play without Emil Heineman. :help:

I'm not getting the abstraction. Do GMs have a group chat on WhatsApp where Hughes can say "I'm selling Slaf to the highest bidder !" I'm not sure if it's that simple and if it were the effect of human psychology would lower his value.

I think I'd offer Slaf in a trade if negotiations were advanced for a great targeted player, like Petersson.
