WC: Jukka Jalonen Finland (2019-2022)

Its interesting how many players from that 2019 have played in the NHL and have been decent. Maybe there was a reason they won.

I have said this before that the 2019 team has so much hidden potential. Even though people called it "Liiga team", it was so much better than that.

Jalonen is a legend. Recent years have been great but he was the coach when Finland won in 2011 WC gold and 2016 WJC gold. Also, 2010 Olympic bronze is pretty notable achievement when you remember that the NHL players were there. Sadly we didn't get to see how he would have done this year with NHL players.

One of the best coaches in the world easily. That he is not even considered for an NHL job just shows the stupidity of the old boys club. But its good for Finnland as many more medals will probably follow if the stays on the bench of the national team.
Jalonen doesn't have contacts ovet the seas and thats why he will probably never get a chance even though he does deserve a shot.

2011 Gold was jalonen, too. And WJC 2016 home ice gold.

He, Mörkö Marko and Granlund are going to be hall of famer of national team (aateloitu leijona).

We can be quite happy if he doesn't go to NHL and if he keeps coaching team Finland in the upcoming WHC tournaments. These other teams really want to find their own J.Jalonen.

I'm also really glad if a guy like Manninen doesn't go to NHL for us to have improved chance of having him in the team next year as well. He was the real MVP. Olkinuora was a good runner up though.

Is NHL racist towards European coaches? If you look at football premier league there have long been lots of managers from continental Europe and South America.

I've been saying that Jukka Jalonen should be an NHL coach for years now. It will never happen for my team because of one particular reason, but some other team will eventually figure it out.

People don't talk about the fact how good that time out in the final by Jalonen was. Maybe it was to give the key PP players some rest or what ever it was, it worked and two goals happened right after it.

I wonder if Heiskanen's miss that bounced perfectly to Granlund was planned

Dallas one of the more Finn-heavy teams in the league, and two players just won gold with him.

Got an opening at the head coach spot, I wonder if this is finally the year he heads over.

Would certainly be interesting if they took that route.

How's his english, though?

Just an example what kinda leader he is:

He's not sitting in ivory tower, he's got that authority which is undeniable but outside of team meetings, games or practises he is their friend.

This morning (after 0 sleep) few players called to the most popular radio show in Finland. Jalonen was drunk there with Finnish players and they called him the Lion King.

He has one important thesis and it's the motto of Finnish national team, translated it's "When it's time". It means that when they are having briefing or practises, they will focus 110%. Outside of that, they just have fun together.

I had a feeling that his post game C-More/MTV3 interview would be the last sober interview of him in a while. He was quite drunk on the airport of Finland after the Olympic gold. The players wouldn't let him go sober.

I would love to see that. Dallas would gain massive amount of new Finnish fans if that happened. He's quite close to being the biggest ice hockey figure in Finland's history. I don't know who would beat him at that. Teemu Selänne might be close with him at that. I think that Jalonen already beats Kurri at that. It's not easy to compare these guys though.

Kiviranta and Hakanpää are Jalonen's guys from 2019 WHC gold team and Hintz would've been in this 2022 team if he didn't have that injury. So it's pretty obvious to say that J.Jalonen likes all of those 5 Finnish guy of Dallas.

Jalonen had some negotiations for assistant coach position but didn't get the job. The team was not named but I understood it was a team that changed head coach between the end of 2019-20 and beginning of 2020-21 seasons.

I was watching some parts of the gold game via Canadian commentary now and as they said, one of the crazy parts about J.Jalonen is that he got named to the Finnish ice hockey hall of fame 10 years ago. He has achieved so much after that. It's pretty nuts.

He, and others, do it all the time in the NHL.

I think Dallas or Florida could be a good fit for him.
