WC: Jukka Jalonen Finland (2019-2022)

Valtteri Filppula is the first Finnish guy in the Triple Gold Club.

So there are 18 guys who have the Olympic Gold and World Champions title. Who from them could get to NHL and win Stanley Cup?

Olkinuora, Säteri, Tuohimaa; Pokka, Friman, Lehtonen, Hietanen, Lindbohm, Vatanen, Ohtamaa; Anttila, Ojamäki, Björninen, Rajala, Manninen, Hartikainen, Mäenalainen, Pesonen.

New kind of record would be Frans Tuohimaa signing with some NHL club, winning the Cup. Being the second goalie of the team and not starting a game. He could be the first Triple Gold Club member without a single minute played, as in his Olympic and Worlds games he has 0 minutes played, but medals in the pocket.

I don't think any of them will win a Stanley cup. We didn't have a young them tbh.

There are plenty of them and a lot of them are already of some age, in any case I don't see a player of the quality of Panarin, for example. If any of them head to the NHL, it's probably a team like Detroit, Arizona or Montreal.

Sakari Manninen (his hight numbers by different sites are 170-172 cm). To be that size it is hard to break into NHL. The guys in that hight range are in NHL Caulfield (USA, Montreal Canadiens) 170, Lizotte (USA, Los Angeles Kings) 171, De Brincat (USA, Chicago Blackhawks) 171, Johnson (USA, Chicago Blackhawks) 173, Yamamoto (USA, Edmonton Oilers) 173, Atkinson (USA, Philadelphia Flyers) 173, Sheary (USA, Washington Capitals) 173, Walker (GB/Australia, St.Louis Blues) 173 and Zuccarello-Åsen (Norway/Italy, Minnesota Wild) 173. Mainly American boys. No Canadians of that size in entire NHL. 9 guys overall. But Manninen belongs to that group not only by size but also skillwise.
Gerbe (USA, Blue Jackets) is 163, but this season he did not get games in NHL, but AHL only.

Is it Anttila who is "Mörkö"? The spelling is probably wrong though.
Congratulation with a Great Gold, and with a member of the Triple Gold Club.
Best Regards from Norway
His real name is Marko. Mörkö means the boogeyman. His nickname among other players is "Stretch." The name Mörkö has been made famous by the media and Antero Mertaranta.

Hard to say, if his magic would transfer also to NHL.

We have an example, when it didnt worked well. Ivan Hlinka was something similar with Czech national team back in 90s and 2000s. But it was a different story in Pittsburgh Penguins.

Thank you. I may have it all wrong then, and mixed up some names. The nickname I was thinking of, came from the mommies. A big "scary" figure, if my childhood memory serves me well. Most likely,it doesn't 😄

I belive Martin St.Lois was 173 cm/5"8 as well?
And on a sidenote, Zuccarello is only 1/4 Italian. His grandmother was from Italy 🇮🇹, but Zuccarello was borned and raised in Norway. Would not be eligible to play for Italy.

Yes. There have been others small guys, but I listed current players.

This 1/4 is not a problem as long he has passport. IIHF eligibility is still connected with him representing Norway (his natural homeland). I takes 4 years and 2 seasons in Italian league to get that. But Norvegian hero he is, I am not disputing that at all.
As I am absolutely ok with Leo Komarov being Finnish despite him being born in Estonia and having our passport too...

You are correct. The nickname comes from this character "Mörkö". Or "Mårran" in Swedish. Don't know what you call it in Norwegian 😁

And Johnny Hockey is 175cm! Not far away! ;)

Sebastian Aho is 181 and considered small. Saku Koivu was 178cm at a time when size mattered perhaps more. Brad Marchand 175cm.

In Swedish mörk ö means something totally different

More important than height for Manninen is propably that he is old. There are some older goalies that have went to NHL like Tim Thomas, Mikko Koskinen and Harri Säteri but I don´t know about forwards if you don´t count players like Radulov going back and forth. He is a good skater still though.
