I agree that Miller is not going to play as the 3C, that would make no sense. Mika should've been slotted down a long time ago. Either way, this team is still having an 8M cap hit for a 3C. Hopefully they can move Mika, but it's clear they'll need to retain salary.

Dorrington's skating is...decent. And I'm a little concerned because any defender will look good on a good team. I just don't understand the infatuation with stacking the left side with depth guys. They need a legit top pairing LD and frankly have for a long time (probably since Yandle). It's hard to control the play when you have one player on the ice who is consistently not great. K'Andre Miller seems stuck on stupid when it comes to his play and has regressed, and he's the best LD. Lindgren is an AHL player at this point. Vak is decent, and so is Brannstrom, but neither of those guys are top pair guys.

Miller at 31 is also concerning. At least he doesn't rely entirely on his legs to produce but players do slow down around this time.

This just gives off Alexei Kovalev 2.0 vibes. At least the Rangers got something decent when they traded Kovalev the first time. But, similarly, they missed his best seasons, then brought him back.

I mean, they missed Miller's prime, and if they're lucky *might* get a season or two out of it, clearly trying to go all in again, but lacking the pieces to really do so.

If they move Zibanejad and somehow get a legit good top pairing LD out of it, then maybe this might make sense but I can't think of a package that would work especially given their asset management and what they'd send the other way in a trade.

Well JT did go over 100 last year. This deal is much to do with Mika hitting the skids hard. Basically his line disappeared and it discombobulated the rest of the team. I don't think the Rangers have the stomach to blow things up every 5/6 years so it's try to fix shit first. I also think they have leeway with the cap going up and with several ELC players who could push for NHL playing time in the next year or two. They should make the cap more manageable and might help get us through transitioning from the veterans who might not be able to cut it anymore.

I think Mika is going to be one of those and Kreider possibly too. Having cap space can help a team fix issues. Finding another team for Mika though just might be No. 1 on the to do list.

Calling Miller a “100 point center” based on past production he is highly unlikely to replicate here is the exact type of lazy press release spin that we as NYR fans have seen implode on itself time, and time, and time again.

“Past performance does not guarantee future results”

That said he is currently a legit #1C, not trying to diminish that, but it makes perfect sense that seeing fans just lazily write about past production gets under the skin of a lot of us.

Under the skin or not, he was a 100 point center whether you like it or not.

He may never be for the Rangers but he will always be the above

Only on these boards is 103 point center, 99 in another year in 80 games, and a 30/50 guy the last three years not a 100 point center because he's now a Ranger.

I really don't see what Drury is doing here. Maybe if the rangers continue to play themselves out of the playoff picture JTM will be willing to be traded again and they can get better value? In terms of value it makes sense but this kind of just made the team more of a mess.

Canucks fan here, can anyone give me a run down on the players we acquired? It would be most appreciated.

I see some Canuck fans have already commented on Miller, but happy to jump in on that as well.

As a 40 plus year Canuck fan, who actually semi cheers for the Rangers even though you beat us in 94, I am happy for JT to get out of Van to a city he loves and to a team that will appreciate him, Rangers fans are some of the toughest but most loving of their team in hockey.

I love hockey, and don't get emotional over it as I have aged and just love the game vs being "attached" to players and even my team, but this one hurt

You guys got our HEART and SOUL. This guy is a f***ing WARRIOR, he competes hard and sure makes some errors, and sure can lose his temper, but its because he f***ING CARES SO MUCH AND JUST WANTS TO WIN.

The canucks have irreversably hurt their franchise because Petterson is a mentally and physically weak player who can;t handle pressure and now will have to take on the matchups Miller took. Note he shut down McDavid and Drai in the playoffs, that;s how good he is. With bread man he's going to put up 100pts easy next year

You guys stole a gem. I'm cheering for rangers to make the playoffs and win a cup with JT. And I hope when he's interviewed on the ice he says "I want to thank Elias Petterson for running me out of town and being a Bitch, because now I have a cup". He wouldn't because he's too classy but it would be nice.

Canucks fooked themsleves (yet again) to your benefit. Be good to him. He'll give you fans everything he has. That I can promise.

He went precisely where he wanted to go for half of what he's worth. It's not like it's a good thing for the team trading said NMC. They got hosed. As would we.

How so? I think most fans would trade Mika for a low pick. Miller was actually a good player. Anything we can get for him would be a bonus of ridding his contract and on ice play.

Are we supposed to call every something based on future production? I'm very confused. Connor McDavid the 60 point center because that's what he'll have at 42.

Not honestly seeing much of that. I think what I said prior is probably in the ballpark of how most see it. Part of that post:

Miller was 9th in points last season and even with the locker room turmoil this season, he is still near a PPG. This team has not had a 1C of this caliber in ages. If he can be a bonafide 1C for a season or 2, and slide down to a lower role as he ages, he’d be relatively worth his cap hit. Especially since we acquired him at dimes on the dollar.

No mention of scoring expectations. Yes, scoring matters, but I don’t think it’s the only key here. I think the team would benefit from an identity shift. I think Miller’s style, along with his connection to Trochek, can help be a catalyst for that. Also from that prior post:

The fact that Miller already played here, waived to come here, and has a history with Tro – who I would say is as close as we have to a de facto captain – means Miller probably feels more at home here and less likely to be a headache.

Expanding on that with Thochek’s own thoughts:

"He’s my best friend in the world. I think this had been a pipe dream for – 10 years in the making, I feel like. Obviously came in the League around the same time. Grew up since we were nine years old together, lived about 500 yards from each other back in Pittsburgh. Our kids are really close. We’ve been talking about it forever. It means a lot."

Miller’s gritty and his bond with Trochek could be a plus. Cuz this team does everything like a cluster of f***ing marshmallows and a change in direction is sorely needed.

Yes, I expect Miller will score. Yes, having a solid 1C is great. But I am also hoping the team’s identity moves in a better direction.

I normally loathe bringing in guys this age. In this instance, for reasons just stated, as well as a few others, this is a trade I can get behind, especially based on cost to acquire, timing, and needs.

To be fair in regard to Millers point drop, he's playing a lot less.

To kind of throw a wrench in that, he's not going to play more here. Laviolette will 100% still see Zibanejad as the 1C.
I believe Vince has played more than Zibs this season and last season. Thinking Zibs will play more than JT is silly imo.

This is HF NYR, most of us have been keeping tabs on JT since before we drafted him :)

For me personally I think we shouldn’t have shipped him along with Mac to Tampa, but rooster-wise it was the right thing back then.

With Zibby not carrying his development since becoming a dad this will help to re-establish a first line again.

Enjoy Chytil and Mancini, great players.

Imho (and in Swedish) I would rather have JT than EP, always been a whiny entitled bozo.

chytil is a classic cock tease. Great size, great skater, can make some impressive physical plays and can dominate on the puck. But he’s made of glass and often lacks finish. If he can stay healthy, he has potential to be a 60-70 point guy.

Mancini is a decent prospect who could maybe turn into a decent 2nd pairing offensive D but more likely he’s a high end tweener.
