I agree that Miller is not going to play as the 3C, that would make no sense. Mika should've been slotted down a long time ago. Either way, this team is still having an 8M cap hit for a 3C. Hopefully they can move Mika, but it's clear they'll need to retain salary.
Dorrington's skating is...decent. And I'm a little concerned because any defender will look good on a good team. I just don't understand the infatuation with stacking the left side with depth guys. They need a legit top pairing LD and frankly have for a long time (probably since Yandle). It's hard to control the play when you have one player on the ice who is consistently not great. K'Andre Miller seems stuck on stupid when it comes to his play and has regressed, and he's the best LD. Lindgren is an AHL player at this point. Vak is decent, and so is Brannstrom, but neither of those guys are top pair guys.
Miller at 31 is also concerning. At least he doesn't rely entirely on his legs to produce but players do slow down around this time.
This just gives off Alexei Kovalev 2.0 vibes. At least the Rangers got something decent when they traded Kovalev the first time. But, similarly, they missed his best seasons, then brought him back.
I mean, they missed Miller's prime, and if they're lucky *might* get a season or two out of it, clearly trying to go all in again, but lacking the pieces to really do so.
If they move Zibanejad and somehow get a legit good top pairing LD out of it, then maybe this might make sense but I can't think of a package that would work especially given their asset management and what they'd send the other way in a trade.
