This is a robbery but some people want to rebuild forever. JT Miller’s body is younger than Chytil’s at this point. We were presidents trophy winners and 2 wins away from the cup final last year. This is basically the same team plus JT Miller. He is the exact type of player and personality that our team needs to shake things up and grow a spine.

The entire top 6 was better a year ago. Kreider and Panarin may legit have 35-40 point drop offs.

Igor's basically what he was so thats a wash.

Defense is probably a push but I liked last year's group better even with the lack of Trouba and an even further diminished Lindgren (who was f***ing wolf shit even during the resurgence where everyone else pretty much improved) this year.

This trade isn't about this year as much as some people want to make it about this year. They really need to go all in on shipping out the rest of the core players.

At the very least by the deadline #55 should be booted and upgraded with even a stop gap and they'd be wise to ship Kreider out and let Othmann get some of those minutes. More reps at the AHL level aren't going to kill him (and he missed a ton of time this year) but we need to see if he can hack it here at some point and 3rd/4th line tweener minutes are not going to give you an answer.

Deal with Zibanejad/Panarin in the summer.

Also Lavi needs to be axed after this year. I don't want the core to succeed in outlasting another coach but they should all be processed simultaneously. I don't trust that guy at all to do the obvious things, let alone the smart things (see: Lindgren's usage, obsession with PP1, etc.)

The key is can you be economical or is Drury just going to melt every asset to change players and hope it works.

If the actual real goal is to move on from Panarin, you have to consider trying to trade him. That's a tall ask.

I can't get inside his brain. I can only guess. I'm guessing this is part of remaking the team in his image and there are more moves when opportunities arise. Miller was an opportunity and he took it. Everyone loved Cytil but he and Kakko, etc, were not Drury's guys. He holds no sentimentality to them like we do. He made a terrible mistake extending Zibanejad. But you can't foretell that at the time of signing. And his moves indicate that he likes to erase his mistakes when he can. I would bet my house he's willing to part with any of the core not named Trocheck if he could've done it yesterday. I also do not believe the crazy theories that he loves Lindgren and will extend him.

JTM was also very, very good in the playoffs last season. He played like a true 1C.

We need that if we're serious.

Are we good enough right now? no. But it's a step in the right direction. It's on Drury now to correct the other weaknesses or this move is futile.

He's a throwback to the early 2010 Rangers. Workhorse but he actually developed into a top tier offensive threat, plus the 2010 Rangers grit.

I was advocating for that. I like Matheson from Montreal. Maybe Hague from VGK, they love to wheel and deal. Brannstrom/Vaakanainen is some pretty good 6/7 depth. I take both of them over Nemeth, Braun, Harpur, Jones, Ruhwedel, etc. Borgen is so much better than Trouba. The defense needs 1 more big move.

@Machinehead Has talked about in the past that if we want to bring in “grit” players they need to be players that can actually play hockey and produce. Troch and Miller are great examples of those type of players.

Of course the hope is that both of them rub off on Laf and he can go back to being that gritty player who can produce.

Mixed feelings about this trade.

On its own, I think it's good value. Strategically from my perspective, I don't like it.

I've been saying for 3 years now that I didn't think we could ever win a Cup with a core of Panarin, Mika, and Kreider. They are too soft to create their own offense in a much defensively tighter playoffs and they don't play hard enough defensively. I think Drury knows it, however, we're hampered by all the no-trade clauses from the previous regime and some self-induced by Drury.

If it were up to me as a fan of the team, I would have tried to sell what I could and re-stocked the draft picks that Drury has given away like candy.

Obviously, Drury has a different agenda (and probably Dolan as well). Their agenda may not align with ours. He's playing to keep his job. He's never going to sell, so he's trying to re-tool on the fly. It is what it is no matter what a lot of us might think. We kind of just have to live with it and hope the re-tooling helps the team.

As far as the trade itself considering that we aren't going to sell off players, I think it's a great trade for the next few years. Miller is a legit top line player and a major upgrade from Chytil. Just last year we thought Chytil might be done from his concussions. This is an asset (sadly I must put it that way) that can lose all value with one more bad hit. The odds of him having another concussion are pretty high I think. It sucks giving up a first round pick, but I don't think it's going to hurt us that much because it shouldn't end up all that high.

As far as players go, I liked Chytil. I loved the pace he played with. I loved how he could carry the puck up ice with speed. I always rooted for him to score. However, I don't think his hockey sense was the best. He's lost on defense a lot of the time. I will root for him to stay healthy and do well. I thought he was very likeable.

Longer term, yeah, this trade can be problematic with an aging team unless Miller irritates the living daylights out of Mika and he agrees to waive his NTC.

I agree with pretty nearly all of this. A couple things though.....I don't think the Rangers were about to put out another letter any time soon and not after making two runs to the conference finals in '22 and '24. I think they think they have a lot of the pieces they need to be a legit contender and being a legit contender only puts you into a handful of teams any given year. It doesn't guarantee anything.

I wouldn't be against them still selling particularly their UFA's. Whether any of that happens now is up in the air and It's not that I hate Lindgren but I don't want him partnering with Fox.

On Miller's thing with Elias Pettersson--I wouldn't expect that to happen again. Miller might not always be the greatest teammate but I think that's probably an isolated incident between people who have come to not really like each other. Like a relationship that's gone bad. It should be up to Rangers staff, coaching, teammates to keep things civil between themselves. Something got out of sync in Vancouver IMO. If Mika is still with the team next training camp---hopefully he'll be better (and that could happen) but I don't think he's going to return to being the player he once was and waive his trade conditions or not I don't think he'll be an easy player to move with so much term left on a pretty hefty cap hit.
