I get why Potvin might go before Shore from a team building perspective, but if we're just ranking defensemen, I'd have Shore relatively easily over Potvin, and quite possibly over Lidstrom too. (Although my opinion on that last one goes back and forth.)

I just realized this is the lowest Wayne Gretzky ever went at 4th. He had never been picked outside the Top 3 in ATD history.

I'm not criticizing the Howe pick. It makes sense. But in one sense, this draft went odd from that moment. This is only the 5th time that Orr didn't go first. There are a lot of oddities with this draft so far.

Mario’s peak is good enough to go 1. Gretzky said the same- Mario would have broken his records had he stayed healthy. This isn’t a video game where a guy is all of a sudden going to get hurt. To me it’s what he did, his peak, his pace and how good he actually was. And I don’t think anyone was ever better than Mario Lemieux. Same level for a select few, but none of them are “better”. And if you are leveling eras, they would have dealt with that back issue today in junior, and all the upgrades in tech etc. He had to play against literal criminals. These rules would be a joke for him.

Lets say that picking Mario 1st is much more justifiable than picking Sid 2nd in my opinion . I would not really go after anyone for doing that, but would consider it minor mistake.

But I admit that word "justifiable" could be a bit too strong there. But personally I don't see a reason for him to go before Grerzky.

I said earlier I was hoping Crosby would be available at 11, well y’all have left me a hell of a consolation prize. IMO this guy is one of the easiest players to build a team around. He was said to have no weaknesses and to be able to play with anybody. He also brings elite leadership and 10 Stanley Cup rings. On top of all that, this is my 15th ATD (I think) and I’ve never drafted him!

Well, we came down to two guys that we were picking between, and we felt like we might have a little more fun with this guy, playing it how we want. So, we are happy to bring on our anchor defenseman in Red Kelly.
