I contemplated trading draft position to get him at the tail end of the top 10.
He single-handedly decided a lot of games. There is so much ink on SPECIFIC game after game in the newspaper archives. It is staggering.
Shore set the stage for Howe and Potvin....Pretty complete and mean player. The kind of player I want to build my roster around.
I get why Potvin might go before Shore from a team building perspective, but if we're just ranking defensemen, I'd have Shore relatively easily over Potvin, and quite possibly over Lidstrom too. (Although my opinion on that last one goes back and forth.)More seriously, best defenseman left, imo, Pretty complete and mean player. The kind of player I want to build my roster around.

Among others.
Mario’s peak is good enough to go 1. Gretzky said the same- Mario would have broken his records had he stayed healthy. This isn’t a video game where a guy is all of a sudden going to get hurt. To me it’s what he did, his peak, his pace and how good he actually was. And I don’t think anyone was ever better than Mario Lemieux. Same level for a select few, but none of them are “better”. And if you are leveling eras, they would have dealt with that back issue today in junior, and all the upgrades in tech etc. He had to play against literal criminals. These rules would be a joke for him.I think picking Gretz, Orr or Howe 1st is justifiable. Super Mario should be picked right after. Then it opens up more.
