JQ: should he be a vezina candidate?

I think what's going to work against him is that, unless something changes, he won't play enough games to really be in the conversation down the line. I think based on his play this year he needs to be starting a lot more than Cal. The other thing against him is that there's a fair number of goalies this year who are performing just as well as him if not better. Have a feeling most of the voters still think Quick is ass even though he's playing arguably better than his Conn Smythe run.

AND the vast majority of those guys are on the eastern seaboard AND have lazy voters in their pockets from the last few years already.

A brief note of pedanticism - every NHL goalie is a Vezina candidate. The word you're looking for is "finalist".
Candidate in this context implies that the goalie in discussion is having a good enough season to be considered... i think that would be the common interpretation of that sentence. But in a legal document I agree it is not accurate enough.

I think the Kings ride JQ towards competing for a playoff spot come deadline time. The Kings could very well be mild buyers, not sellers. I’d rather see Quick play meaningful games as a King in April. Even if the Kings don’t make the cut in the end, it’ll be worth it.

I also think Quick has earned some right to have input whether he gets traded. He has been the heart and soul of this team for a decade. I don’t think he gets moved this season. That’s just my two cents.
Unless CP turns things around there is zero chance JQ will be going anywhere.

Meh, after not making the playoffs since 2018, and not winning a playoff round since 2014, the Kings and their fans deserve to trade whatever player they want to trade in order to improve the team in the future.

If I get a 1st rd pick and change offer for Quick, I move him. Yes I know that leaves us Peterson.

I agree, I'm just not sure Quick's the guy to move for LA. Maybe he is, but Petersen isn't looking like an elite goalie and Quick brings toughness and compete that most goalies don't have.

If it improves the team, I'll trade Kopitar, Doughty, Brown, Quick, Byfield, anybody.

I don't even think Turcotte alone would get you him. It would be Turcotte and probably someone like Fagemo or a 2nd.

I'd probably do it too. Minnesota won't though. It's not even someone I should be thinking about. :P

I think Quick enters the conversation for Vezina mid-season. He doesn't have enough games played yet, but when he's got 30-40 under his belt, he will be a candidate if he's still playing like he is.

We should be getting a double dose of JQ this weekend.. Funny thing before this was announced Hoven asked on twitter which goalie should play which team this weekend, and most people responded JQ and JQ
