Player Discussion Joshua Roy

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
I'm seeing he and Laine starting to look for each other. But Roy isn't explosive enough to take advantage.

He's got this summer, next year, and the following summer to train and get better.

Following summer? Has any offensive forward made the NHL as a D+6?

Remember, Roy is very young. Very close to being in the next draft.

He'll have just turned 23 at the start of the 2026-27 season. At this stage I'm hoping that's his year. I have him as an injury replacement in Laval next year, along with Kapanen and Beck:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - 2c - Demidov
Dach - Newhook - Amderson
Heineman - Evan's - one of Armia or Gallagher

I don't agree with 23 being very young. IMO, for an offensive forward, 23 should be a prime year.

By 2026-27, there will also be lots of other players knocking on the door.

Yes, he'll have to improve if he wants to make it.

At the end of the day, he has until he's waiver eligible to get his game up. If he can't make the team the year he's waiver eligible, he'll be on waivers.

He skates like a guy that's 6'4 240. He looks even more sluggish now than he did in his last stint. Not sure what's going on but he needs to figure it out or else he'll never be in the show.

he should be used as a trade chip for an upcoming trade.

nothing of value in long term for him
I agree, our best hope is that he goes down to Laval, has a great finish to the season and playoff run and then move him in a package for someone more proven.

I don't think Roy has the footspeed to play in Marty's system. He's always a second late because he just isn't where he should be on the ice.
