Prospect Info: Joshua Roy Part 2

Sounds like habs will sign a star player long term for 750 k not bad!

it sounds like someone criticized pretty much every aspect of a forward, so I'm wondering how Roy even made the Q let alone get drafted. I don't buy into it btw. Even the skating thing seems overblown.

Roy is interesting because he has been able to improve aspects of his game. Passing and shot were a weakness years ago. We’ll see what he can do about strength and skating.
Passing and shooting were and always have been his greatest strengths along with a high hockey IQ. Skating is and always has been his greatest need for improvement among his physical skill set.

The aspects of his game that have improved by leaps and bounds are conditioning, work ethic and his 200 foot game.

How long is “always”? I saw an article that at some point in his pre-junior career his shot was weak and he made it a strength.

Passing, shot, skating?? What's left? How did the guy make the Q then?
This was pre-Q, presumably his puck handling was good. His skating is fine for junior, I saw an article that said his shot and passing were weak well before junior and he practiced obsessively for a year or two to get where he is now.

I read that he worked on his shot from a very young age....this is what every good/great shooter in the history of the game did. Avoid these "articles" as they are invariably written by clueless tools. People who have true hockey acumen are not interviewing and blogging about midget/bantam players. To be honest I don't even know of a truly legitimate and informative publication at any level. Just a bunch of wannabe's who are either pure geeks or just weren't very good at the sport so are writing about something that they never understood.

A very tiny percentage of hockey fans truly apply critical thinking to all aspects of their analysis and we are left with a sea of low acumen, emotionally driven wasteland of bias confirmation and pseudo poop. I am by no means the ultimate authority on all things hockey as I know this from the continuous evolution of my understanding of the game and the number of times I have had to entirely reevaluate my approach. The problem is most people don't do this and I can quite literally see them stuck in the same process that I was in so many years ago. There are others who understand the same about me who know more than I do and I welcome their input. The people writing these articles are so far down the food chain that their opinions mean no more to me than watching my dog tilt his head as the t.v. screen changes...

I don't think a kid who can't shoot or pass goes 1st overall in the QMJHL draft.

I remember reading an interview where Joshua mentioned spending a summer practicing his shooting mechanics with one of his previous coaches prior to joining the Q because it was weak (but accurate) after he was drafted by the Habs. I don't remember reading about him having issues passing...

He's good at this level anyway. Love the PK shift he had. Hopefully some of those skills are translatable at the next level.
