What an idiotic thing for JHS to do.

Best thing that the Islanders could do was sending him back first day. Those other younger players should take notice that this is serious chit up here and should never be taken lightly or for granted.

Now, let's see how JHS reacts. Does he smarten up? What kind of statement does he decide make this season? Hopefully he buckles down and focuses on developing his talent and not his ego.

Hope he does buckle down. Given past precedent on his reaction though, he probably think it's the Islanders fault.

What a joke...

I've been trying to like Ho-Sang since we drafted him, but at the end of the day for me we just have a more talented Kabanov on our hands. I'm willing to give him another chance, but I'm not counting on him as part of our future. First good deal Snow gets to move him he should take (although no doubt his trade value just went down).

I just hate people making excuses for the kid. Everyone else from coaches to staff and 40 other guys, including several his age, managed to be on time today. Forget him...What does it say to your teammates when everyone else is there working and then you show up? What a joke.

Remember when Matt Martin was 19? John Tavares...Ryan Strome...Casey Cizikas...Josh Bailey...Calvin DeHaan...? They all showed up on time.

All we heard from the second he was drafted was how he is "going to be the best player from the 2014 draft." Oh really? You make that claim then your work ethic better match your ego. Personally I don't care much for words unless they are meant to entertain me. Ho Sang has said he is "going to be the best," but today his actions said he's not mature/serious enough to warrant being in the NHL. There's a reason why Ho-Sang feel to the end of the first round and now we're seeing why.

Talent doesn't mean much if you're head isn't screwed on right, and as of today Ho-Sang needs a psychological carpenter with a full set of tools. Because right now there's a severe disconnect between what he's SAYING and what he's DOING, and he needs a strong dose of humility if he's going to make it to the NHL for any team. With each passing action he takes I'm less confident it will happen for him.

If anything I really like how the Isles handled it. With their actions they basically said, "We all about business here and if you aren't serious to be part of that, then go home." Love it.

Couldn't agree more.

Coming on the heels of his jr. coach saying '“It was mandatory that we had to trade him. For many, many, numerous internal reasons, the people that truly know what went on behind the scenes would understand why we had to trade him.†, huge red flags are now raised. Something is obviously very wrong with this kids' priorities. Isles should leave this guy in Jr's and forget about him for awhile(like several years). If he ever figures it out, fine. But he should be persona non grata for the foreseeable future.

How he reacts will be a big indication on where his head is at.

He won't crack the lineup for another couple years, so for him, it is all about development and right now his maturity needs a lot of work. Hopefully sending him home is a push in the right direction. Garth did the right thing. Hopefully Josh acknowledges his mistake and learns from it.

No one should have ever counted on him to be a part of the team's future. Lack of judgement on the fan's part.

I think a lot of you guys are overreacting here. So he was late once. Big ****ing deal. With the way some of you are reacting, you'd think he had streaked naked across the ice with "GARTH SNOW IS A WEENIE" written across his chest.

Agree! Obviously all the glowing talk about him doing everything the right way since he's been here isn't entirely true. No way do you get sent home on the first day of camp for being 15 minutes late. Obviously the Isles know something more about his behaviour that they don't like and are sending him a very clear message. Don't forget there was the incident in the playoffs last year where his coach yanked him off the ice. There is definitely more to this story than we know. Way too soon to write him off but sometimes youngsters are confronted with big life choices and this looks to be one of them for JHS. Hope he learns from it!

I still do not see any of the guys jumping all over the kid saying how late he was.. was it 10 hours, 1 hour or 20 minutes--sorry to be rude--but I will lead the charge if it is over an hour to run the guy down--but before I run a guy down I want to know how late he was and why he was late

As a rookie, if your on time, your 30 minutes late. No excuse.

We don't know the circumstances on why he was late, and as we all know, could have been a lot of things. Before we sit in judgement, let's wait for the facts to (hopefully) come out.

I do NOT want to trade him, the last thing I want is to send another Nino to help another team make the playoffs scoring 25 goals or more per season. And Ho Sang might be better than Nino.

Given that I liken the Isles upper management to a cross between Ted Stepien and Bill Wirtz, I am hesitant to attack the player, even if they have an alleged history of immature behavior.

Isles upper management likely know and it wasn't a good enough excuse to be late. Doubtful they would immediately send him back if the reason was legit.

Not sure why posters are so quick to bring the 'We don't know the circumstances, we don't know exactly how late he was' argument into this.
He was late enough and without a good reason for being so, obviously. Why would they send a kid home for absolutely no reason?
I mean, not for nothing, if I was a prospect looking to make an impression and it was the first day of camp, I'd try to be, like, 2 hours EARLY!

Not a harsh punishment. The purpose of camp for a 19 year old who wasn't making the team is merely (1) a reward/privilege and (2) educational (to show them what they need to do to make the NHL). If they're late the first day of camp, they lose their reward/privilege. And the best educational tool at that point is to send them home. Lesson learned (hopefully). Mistakes are great teachers, if you're capable of learning. Hopefully JHS is.

Can you name for me the last Islander player that was late to practice? After you do that please also let me know the "circumstance" that made it ok to be late.

So far, it's million dollar arm, 10 cent head... He has only gotten this far because of his talent. Absent that, he's another 'me vs. the establishment type' that doesn't work quite so well in the old boys hockey-world of doing things a certain way. Play the game - literally and figuratively. Somehow tons of uber-talented and no so talented guys do it annually.

JHS knows best. Isles showed him otherwise, when he alone put them in a position to do absolutely what they did. Tough love boy. Maybe the lightbulb goes on for this kid, however, knowing only media reports, good luck with that. His Canadian Hockey public tirade will be his downfall if he doesn't mature and think the only thing people care about is 'how great he is.'

Here's to you JHS.

...and that was 30 years ago... The PA would jump all over a NHL team now if they did that.

Apparently, JHS wasn't so concerned about team policies, his teammates, or his own livelihood already knowing he has a LOT of scrutiny on his behavior already. Oh well, sorry boy, can't help you if its not THAT obvious to fall in line.

We got to relax on him being late. Both here and on other parts of the board you would think he got sent back for committing armed robbery or pissing in John Tavares' Gatorade. He showed up late to practice because he slept through his alarm. He's 19, it happens. I have friends on my teams in high school and college who have done that too. Does that make them failures as athletes? No they just have to be more responsible. Does that mean they don't deserve some sort of punishment fitting their mistake? Of course not, he was sent home and lost his chance to make the team however small it was.

Those of you saying we should trade him or that he will never be an NHL player because of this have to pump your brakes. He is still an elite talent and one of the best players in his draft year. Staple tweeted he was slotted to play RW for Lee and Tavares. Obviously they all think highly of his on ice ability which is still pretty important in the NHL if I recall. If this pisses him off to put up 100+ points this year, lead his team to the Memorial Cup, and/or make him want to put the extra work in then this whole incident will be worth it.

the PA would not say a word to the team, that is not there role....if a player is late he can be penalized as the team sees fit as long it is legal....

sending the kid home was the right thing to do

there is NO excuse to be late unless you had a medical reason...

if your going to be late don't bother showing up

I think JHS is in the 'professional athlete' category that involves talent, dreamers, and multi-millionaires of all kinds. He's no longer in HS or college once you find yourself invited to a professional hockey team training camp...

Kind of feel bad for him. He probably couldn't sleep last night out of nervousness and excitement and completely ****s it up. Oh well, hopefully he uses it as motivation and people aren't too brutal to him on Twitter.

Haha I love this. Cappy would never have the juevos to do this.

Lost some respect for JHS with this. How some of these talented kids won't take an opportunity to play professional hockey and be a millionaire seriously will always blow my mind.
