Feel so bad for Josh, great kid and important part of the team. Hoping it isn’t too serious and we are able to see him in a few weeks

I wonder if they consider moving Giroux to C. And have one of Motte/Joseph play the right side on that line. I do think Giroux and Debrincat would benefit greatly from having a player who has a high motor and can get on the opposition and disrupt them, both fit that mold well.

Yes and no. Sure, the structure may be weaker, but you can strengthen up the muscles around to make it stronger than it ever was...but it takes more work than you've ever put in.

I've seen plenty of people lift weights and have an injury and surgery and be told by the doctor that they shouldn't ever lift heavy weights again because it will make it worse again...only for them to be able to lift more than they ever could pain free because they slowly rebuilt all the surrounding muscles better than they were before.

I'm no doctor, but there's plenty of examples out there. It will just take Josh putting a more serious and dedicated emphasis on strengthening everything around that shoulder.

Take Hossa for example. He got injured in the memorial cup and didn't join the senators for his rookie year until December with a knee injury and surgery. But Hossa rehabbed the shit out of that knee and was an explosive skater following that. No reason Norris can't have Hossa like dedication and have very strong shoulders throughout his career.
The difference is Norris also did that in College successfully. But he's since injured it again twice more.

Did Norris have surgery last time he injured his shoulder ... its the same shoulder now again.
I remember there being some discussion about surgery vs no surgery last year.

Hopefully he is back sooner than later.

He has surgery a few years ago, last season eh aggravated it.

This would be a different surgery to try and permanently fix the problem.

I agree that it doesn't mean it is going to keep happening.

It just means it happening is going to be much more likely going forward. He got hurt, had surgery, got hurt again, didn't have surgery and now got hurt again.

The pattern is there.

Shoulders are a pretty amazing part of the body with the different ways it can move and rotate. Unfortunately, that makes it vulnerable. Surgery could fix it I suppose, but way down the road (many years), I think he'll have issues. You can make muscles stronger, but not cartilage and once its been damaged or gone/diminished, oh well. I've found this out after years of playing sports, weight training, etc.

I badly bruised my shoulder with a lot of internal bleeding after being flung underwater by a big wave and impacting the ocean floor directly with it.

The doctor was surprised it wasn't shattered, but basically said that it's such a complicated joint that I'd have stiffness when I got older, that it was permanently weakened, and that was just a bad bruise/sprain.

He did say that most people end up with shoulder problems by their 40s.

How many times can you have surgery at the same place? I can't help but wonder if he might have to try rehab and let the chips fall where they may, and do the permanent/final surgery after his playing days.

And man, it's really shitty to be thinking this way so early in his career. I really hope whatever they have to do, can be done and still allow him to be as healthy as possible and play for a good while (health being the most important, of course).

I had the game recorded and was going to watch it after my son went to bed last night. Watched the first period and had to just shut if off. This killed any excitement I had heading in and just felt aggravating to keep watching knowing what was coming. This sucks so bad for this team.

Yes, a few shoulder injuries over the years have left me with very little cartilage in my right shoulder.

This is going to be a chronic issue, surgery never makes something that broke as good as new. His left shoulder will always be weak.

This is very, very bad news.
That’s not necessarily true. Some surgeries can get you back to better than pre-injury, not all but some.

Assuming it's his shoulder, and assuming he gets surgery, would he be back in time for the playoffs if we make them?

It is typically a 4 month turnaround without any complications .That puts a return at the end of March beginning of April. Last season Pinto had the surgery but didn't come back because we were already out of the playoff hunt and thus there wasn't any benefit to the risk.

Could be a different story this time.
Y'all keep saying it's his shoulder but I've seen it reported as a wrist injury and nowhere does it say shoulder.

Where are you seeing wrist?

Keep hearing shoulder or wrist but wouldn't it make more sense if it was elbow? Swelling is typically more indicative of an injury to that area especially with fluid buildup in the bursa.

I recall hearing wrist on the stream I was watching, and Yahoo says it's a wrist injury.

Guess we'll just have to wait until the team gives us a real update.

Well, I've separated my shoulder playing hockey (not that that makes me an expert) and in my experience your arm hangs. Norris didn't seem like he went down the tunnel with a hanging left side

Slotting Brassaed into the 3rd line gives us 3 lefties there. Not sure that’ll work.
I have Brassard who shoots left replacing Norris at centre who also shoots left on the 2nd line with DeBrincat who shoots right, but is playing LW & Giroux who shoots right & plays RW. I think this is why Brassard was signed to replace a centre who got hurt in the top six & Gambrell was signed to replace a centre who got hurt in the bottom six.

DeBrincat - Brassard - Giroux
