The Ducks have slid down the standings going 3-7 in their last 10 if that trend continues they will be sellers at the deadline.

The Leafs at 25-10-3 are a very good team but as we have seen recently if they suffer a couple injuries on the back end it gets thin quickly.

The Leafs need another guy and Josh Manson should be a target.

What's the cost

There has been no word on the Ducks trading their pending UFAs. No one knows if they will.

I assume that Manson at 50% would have a few teams interested.

I imagine ducks will sell him at 50%... and would be hoping for a 1st. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd + solid prospect.

There would def be a market on him.

If they keep playing like this they will

I mean they could extend him... and playing like what exactly? Team has been missing significant pieces the last few weeks, due to covid running through the line up.

Gibson Fowler Lindholm Zegras Getzlaf Terry Milano Comtois Stolarz prob a few others i missed have all missed time over the last 10 games or so.

Anaheim selling would flood the market. Possible trade options in that scenario include Giordano, Lindholm, Chiarot and Leddy on the left, with Klingberg, Ristolainen and Manson on the right. The top guy(s) will bring back quality returns, but there could be a mega squeeze on this year's 2nd/3rd tier type targets that would be 1st tier in a different year.

My guess with retention they ask for a first coming back

I could see him getting that but I also wonder how many 1sts will be available because quite a few have already been traded.

Colorado, Vegas, Florida, Carolina have all traded their 1st.

Makes me wonder how many 1sts we see move at the deadline

If I'm the ducks I'm keeping Manson for the playoff run.

A couple of mediocre assets aren't as valuable as those young guys playing some meaningful games to end the season and maybe in the playoffs.

Meh, Ducks have exceeded expectations this season so far, but they are not a playoff team yet. They need to stay the course and if they cannot re-sign Manson to what they want have to move him for assets, even if its not for much, better than losing him for nothing.

I dont disagree with this mentality if you think your potential 1st round opponent is weak.
If Manson gets you through the first round, id say keep him and get the extra experience.

If he makes it so you loose in 6 instead of 4 or 5... I would take the assets IMO.

I dont like the idea of 'own rentals' when you know you are a severe severe underdrog.

I disagreed with it for Bozak, Gardiner and JVR when we snuck into the playoffs, as we did nothing and lost out on a few higher picks / prospects. Winning an extra game in the first round didnt do anything for us, but an extra few 1st rounders would have been nice.

A 1st for 50% Manson is IMO worth it but if Anaheim is indeed opening the floodgates I would rather pay the extra top prospect plus whatever it would take to bring Lindholm to TO

The Leafs Would need Demott going back the other way to make salary work. Dermott+ 1st for Manson@50%, not sure how ducks feel about that.

All I know is if Chariot is rumoured to return a 1st rd pick, then Manson returns at least a 1st rd pick maybe +.

Especially at 50% retention, I'd expect/want more than just a late middle to late late first round pick. Probably not a huge amount more, but a decent prospect or a (projected higher than the decent prospect) reclamation project/someone needing a change of scenery on top of the pick.

I think Anaheim re-signs Lindholm no matter what. Trading him would signify a complete tear down, and that's just not how the Ducks operate.
