Oh come on lol! He was a decent backup for the Leafs, who had 1 decent season in 12/13, he was not a starting goalie for us, and really hasn't ever be. Nothing against the guy, I always liked him, but he just simply wasn't that decent of a goalie, far from horrible though, I'd say he was an above average backup.
I guess I missed the part where you said the leafs havent developed a starting goalie since Potvin. Except you didn't say that, and even still, a career backup is someone like Curtis McElhinney. 13 season in the league, 249 career games. Reimer is in his 12th season, and before his career is over, will easily double that number. Reimer is 120 all time in games played out of 320 goalies with atleast 100 games played. Reimer is much better than those on this board give him credit for. He has the 39th best sv%, though that wasn't tracked back in the day so not the best. And his career GAA is 130th. This is all out of 320 goalies.

I don't know much about him but it's easy to root for a homegrown guy. Been a while since we've had a young goalie to back.
He is a 98 but played tournament hockey against 96s and 97s .. I first saw him in a spring elite AAAA hockey tournament in Boston where I was coaching and he was da tender for jr STL blues team .. Tkachuk was coach of stl team and his kid Woll Keller and Frederic were on team .. you could tell kid was extraordinary as he was best on team by far and literally saved 10 Mitch breakaways/shots in game .. by far games 1st star and only reason stl was even in final .. incredible size but his athleticism was far better .. a big game tender

James Reimer didn't happen. He was just a figment of our imaginations. Just because some of you guys thought he sucks, doesn't mean he does. Might want to look at the NHL goalie stats, cuz he's at the top of them this year and is a career .914 goalie. Almost 400 games in the NHL now, career .914 goalie.
Reimer couldn't take the heat of the big city lights, he fits right in with San Jose where the general population doesnt know hockey can be played on ice. No pressure Reimer is a great goalie as is Andersen. Toronto needs players that want the light shone on them, because it will be.

Should Woll start against LA?
No.

I'm glad he's played so well againt Buffalo and Bridgeport -- he really could not have done much more than he did-- but he's only as good as his next start. One bad start and things can come crashing down very fast.

Better to let him bide his time. Don't play him more than necessary and pick his spots.

There's no need to start Woll in LA.

If he continues to progress as well as he has, there will be lots of other games to play.

ppl sending death threats to his wife is so far from being the same as the heat of big city lights

on topic - Woll and Campbell are the future of this team. WOuld like to see more from Woll, he looks very promising. He stole that win last night and has great reflexes and positioning

As disgusting as that stuff was, he was playing poorly before any of that. Seemed like the type of guy that didn't like the spotlight. Not a good fit for Toronto where players get all the attention. We need players that revel in it. Maybe Woll is one.

Woll is a big game tender .. amazing reflexes and great athleticism .. needs much more work on his angles and positioning which is still holding him back .. you guys will see over time .. i have seen him play maybe 30+ times over da years in elite spring tournaments and then with Marlies a bit .. he is no sure thing but it will come down to how smart he is in learning pro hockey .. i have always liked him because he can step up and win a championship game by himself 1on1 against best of best .. very very very few kids I have seen do that over da years outside McJ/Matty

I’d give him one of the games on the Cali road trip, then sit him until the next back-to-back (WPG).

It would be great for his development to give him a handful of games while Mrazek is out because he won’t play again after that and he’s a hot hand right now which allows Campbell to rest. Petruzzeli was also just promoted to the Marlies and it’d be nice to give him a run of games without Woll in his way.

Woll has yet to master the AHL level and a strong four games up here could give him a massive confidence boost once he’s inevitably sent back down.

Reimer was great in Toronto aside from his two concussion riddled seasons.

He has a .925 career SV% in the playoffs and had a .923 SV% in our series against Boston and was one of the only reasons we made it that far.

Outside of the two concussion seasons where he posted a .900 and a .907 SV% when healthy he posted:

.921
.924
.911
.918

His only other horrible year was the year Florida's defense was a tire fire none of the 5 goalies they tried could post numbers behind that group.

As we have seen as Leaf fans with Reims,Andy and Jack last season, our goalies seem to be our achilles heel! Once they give up one goal in a big game the team hit quicksand mode and can never get out. Not saying that it is the goalies fault but over the years our tenders have given up a soft goal in almost every important game.

I think you're giving Woll way too much credit here.

Interested in if you've seen Scott play much and thoughts on him?

i thought Woll's positioning and play reading were pretty spot on in that islanders game. He never seemed eratic or awkward in the net which was reassuring.

I can't imagine he'll get another game this road trip. maybe San jose but probably not. I think the coaching staff is still going to ease him into the NHL just when absolutely needed.

No I have seen him once at WJC but I know he is a big kid from out west .. from what I have been told he is a large space shot blocker tender who has developed pro positioning and angles already (more like a Freddy type) .. kinda of exact opposite of Woll really .. I hope we keep both guys because both need more development

Curious to know if his AHL stats are a true reflection or if it's a case of playing behind AHL players. I admittedly haven't been paying close attention to the Marlies the last few years but none of their goalies have very good stats, hence my question. He looked really shaky in his first start(understandably), but looked much more poised in his 2nd start. It was against a decimated Islanders lineup, but they still had some good chances.

Winners win losers lose .. and big time players make big time plays in big time games .. this is why I have told you guys I am really excited about Woll .. da kid is a big time player who has excelled when games matter most his whole life .. a tender who can be great just continues to make every save until game is won and we move on to next round .. Soup even though we all love him, da guy is infectious, bottom line when it mattered most he gave up a house league goal in game 7 .. my gut tells me he will again .. I think you will see Woll carry team in playoffs which is what we need most of all
