So I watched the Avs the other day and they are a really good team with the worst goaltending in the league. I know Korpi has played well, and I like him, but I wonder if he's playing well enough to interest the Avs in swapping a top 6 forward for him, which is something we could use even more?

So who backs up Swayman? If Swayman gets hurt or his play starts to slip again, the Bruins need a reliable stop gap. Lehkonen would be a great fit here though on the left wing - playoff performer too.

Sure, but that's not what I asked you. I said do you really think the results would have been different had Korpi played last night? Does losing 5-1 or 6-1 or 4-1 make it any less of a bad loss to you? Or could they have won in your opinion had Korpi played?

I think ANYONE in the NHL is better than Sway right now. And the stats more or less prove that out.

Can't say what a big save at 3-1 early in the 3rd does. Against Philly, it was a comeback. Sway is barely NHL level right now (and that's being very generous).

Not asking me, but I believe Korpi would have made more saves than Sway did, and ultimately that gives you a better chance to win

Sure, okay. But the greater point I'm making here is that the defensive breakdowns this team makes game after game after game are still there regardless of who is in net. And needing your goalies to play at an elite level in net just to cover that up and keep the team in a game is unsustainable.

So switching the goalies doesn't really stop the issue. It's lipstick on a pig.

Sure it's unsustainable to expect that every night, however when your goalie is paid elite goalie numbers he needs to be a difference maker more often then not as well. If we are going to sit here and say he needs a solid system in front of him to play well, then I question why we spent 8.5 mil on him and not elsewhere.

It's a fair point. Swayman wanted to be the man and be paid like the man, so he has to go out and prove it. He's struggled so far and hasn't held up his end of the bargain. On the flip side, I think this roster is fatally flawed and not a cup contending team. They're defensively inept and can't score goals on the PP let alone 5 on 5. They're not going anywhere this season. I think the should be sellers at the deadline.

#1 - Shot off the back boards, comes out front and ends up right on the stick of a guy sitting backdoor uncovered for a tap in

#2 - MS55 was left uncovered right between the dots for an easy one-timer

#3 - MS55 again left all alone inside the dot for an easy one-timer

#4 - piss poor turnover at our own blue line, Carlo gets caught watching the play and allows Connor to get right between the dots for a one-timer

#5 - That one Swayman has to have. It was a clean look from outside the dot

#6 - Deflected shot from the point. Those are tough for any goalie to save

#7 - Freak goal that 99.9% of the time doesn't go in from that angle. I'll put some blame on Swayman for not having a tighter seal of the post

#8 - Peake with a stupid turnover that goes right out front to an uncovered Jet for a slapper from 5 feet away.

#3 was on Koepke for going on a walkabout up around the blue line for no apparent reason

I think for once we are in total agreement, while I believe Sway needs to be better they have so many other holes right now that it's hard to place too much blame on the goalies.

I'd look to sell too, but I doubt they go that route.

I saw it very similarly as you did. 2-3 were goals of the "questionable" variety where you want and need your goalie to come up with a stop there. The challenge is that even if you said 3 were soft goals, the Jets still scored 5 more. Given this team's lack of scoring, they had no chance in that game based on that alone.

Even the 5th one you let a NHL caliber shooter walk in that close and be able to dust it off with today's stick technology and release, goalies have very little chance unless it hits them. They can't even read the shots coming off these sticks today, the release is just too quick.

You could do this exact same exercise with the games against Dallas (both), Carolina, even the game against Columbus.

Bruins can't defend against deeper, faster teams. Slower, shallow teams like the ones the faced since Sacco got promoted they can handle all day long. But against the stronger faster teams, they consistently get picked apart.

And the coaching staff continues to constantly juggle the lines and switch up who is playing center. We went from Coyle and Beecher centering the 3rd/4th lines but for some reason it's been switched to Kastelic and McLaughlin. This lack of consistency is making it much harder on the D-men as the D and the C are basically operating as a 3-man unit. The wingers are so slow as a group they are basically liabilities in their own end.

I dont really like the logic that you can't expect a goalie to stop a clean shot with no screen, especially one paid in the top 5 of all goalies. What exactly is the point of paying a guy top 5 at his position if not to get an edge over other goalies and shooters? He is paid a premium and thus should be expected to make a save on the odd odd man rush or open shooter, otherwise he is giving you no advantage at that position and you might as well spend the money elsewhere.

IMO it's a excuse for Sway's poor play this season, plenty of elite goalies will get the best of a shooter one on one, especially when the shooter isn't elite, including Sway in recent years, I don't know what's happening to him this year though.

Times have changed, goalies get beat all the time with clean shots within a decent enough range. The Bruins rarely do it but the rest of the league has no problem. For the Bruins to pull it off they need Cayden Primeau in net.
