Linus Ullmark in Ottawa

2.93 , .891%. (and that's trending UP thanks to his last win).

Do you see what we were explaining? Korpi was never as bad as the Ottawa situation showed.
They have 3 guys who would be the highest scorer on our team and yet they are worse than us. Says it all about their defense.

You missed the entire point. Regardless of whether it was team or player as the cause for his dropoff, what was said was still factual. What was projected, IE he'll do better here with real defense, or Goalie Bob will fix his game, THAT was speculative. It's panned out so far in the short amount of time he's played. Instead of trying to take a victory lap though, why not wait and see how the rest of the season goes?

Korpisalo has outplayed Swayman to date ( i don't expect that to be the case by season's end ) and was one of the few players doing their job well when the team as a whole was stinking up the joint night after night. Korpisalo has earned his recognition so far for helping to keep the season from being a further disaster while everyone else got their shit together.

But he was the worst goalie in the league in terms of starters last year. People calling him that weren't making up some wild claim just to be dicks. It was factual. People all pretty much said he'd likely be better based on the upgrade of defense as well. If anything, most people critical of the deal weren't being contrarian, they were simply saying that the Bruins gave up the best player in the deal AND ate money coming back mainly for a late first round pick, which was a hefty price to pay for a pick. In that framework, it's still not a great deal even with Korpi playing as reasonably well as he has. In fairness to the full deal, Kastelic has been a decent throw in, but they already had a glut of bottom 6 players, so it wasn't like he was a necessary piece.
The issue is people wanted to call him the worst goalie in the league behind that Ottawa defense after one bad season. Plenty of people pointed that out and had backlash, yet here we have Ullmark with almost identical sv% thus far in Ottawa as Korpi had. So maybe, just maybe people were wrong in their judgement of how much better Ullmark was than Korpi no?

Plenty of people also didn't believe he'd magically be better here either if you go through the threads.

And yes I know we have a long season and things can change, but if we can come to conclusions before he sets foot on the ice, surely we can come to some conclusions two months later right?

You want everyone not to discuss Korpisalo’s play until April?

Nope, not what I said but why let that ruin your fun? To clarify this for you, I said why not hold off on the victory laps because the sample size isn't very large and there's plenty of hockey yet to be played??

You're allowed to discuss the player and his play, but not be too excited, or, God forbid, claim that maybe you were right about a player. I think April is when you are permitted to say you made a good call. Maybe March if he keeps playing well.

If he falters, should it be until April to claim he was a bad pickup.

No way man, enjoy life while you can. No one knows what's around the bend.
I'm all for celebrating the victories small and large. I think where this example loses me is that it doesn't appear to be rooted in the player being good or helping the team win so much as it's about saying they were right and that everyone who disagreed was stupid. That kind of shit is small, petty and zero value to me. I've been wrong way more than I've been right here and in life. That's just part of it. But I don't see the need to pick a singular example to throw in people's faces. Especially for something like this, when the player in question has played all of 10 games. That just seems dickish to me?

But people can do what they want. I think most here realize I'm not about stopping anyone from saying whatever they want. That being said though, I will always throw in my two cents and call a spade a spade when I think it's like this.

Like I said before, if Korpi was 2-6 3.10 and .880 right now, we'd hear MORE than we heard on trade day.

AND, that's not considering Kasti and big Dean. Kasti looks like he's about to extend for a while here...

hands up. I was a non believer

I’m pretty slow.

I was 20 when I realized the dad was dressed as Santa in ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’

My best though was in college getting my class schedule early at registration with my GF and we took all same classes. I looked at my schedule saw STAFF and said, ‘why do I have the same teacher for two classes’. She gave me the side look that was very common in our relationship and realized I was serious, said let me see this and then whacked me over head with it (gently) and said ‘I can’t believe I’m going out with the dumbest man in America’

Cross I’ve had to bare or bear one of them

So I watched the Avs the other day and they are a really good team with the worst goaltending in the league. I know Korpi has played well, and I like him, but I wonder if he's playing well enough to interest the Avs in swapping a top 6 forward for him, which is something we could use even more?

The trade that brought Korps and Kastelic here was one of the best ever in my years as a Bruins fan. We got a way more than acceptable backup. In fact, he’s played like a number one. We got a young, tough center who has contributed way more than expected. I was hoping for a tough guy who “wouldn’t hurt the team too much” while he was out there. He’s been a very solid all around player. Great trade.

I’d rather trade them Swayman.

I get why you say that, and I'd consider it too, but they committed to him so we have to hope he gets back to being what they committed to.

The Bruins would have to add a nice sweetener or retain a big % of his cap hit for any team to take Korpisalo and his 3 more full years in exchange for future considerations. It’s a negative value contract, it is t bringing back value, you have to give up value just to get out from under it.

Maybe it was, but so far it's been a positive value to this club and could be worth even more to a team like the AVs.

They will certainly put a qualifier on 10 games of performance on a contract with 3.75 years left for a career .900 goalie who will be 34 at expiry. It is still a negative value contract and you are talking about a team giving up tremendous value in a top 6 forward for it? That’s laughable.

We are allowed to say Lindholm was a bad signing but not allowed to say that Korpisalo is working out well. Don’t you know the rules?!

He’s the goalie here he was in Columbus so far with save percentage. Hopefully he can continue to improve

There's plenty of space between "negative" and "tremendous" value.

Ya I don't think that's true any more the way he's played. I think maybe he's showing other teams that it was Ottawa's D that was the real problem and he's back to playing the way he did when he was in L.A. Any team with a decent D might think he's a fit and Avs most definitely need a goalie.
