MB 29. Point still stands.
Not all top line wingers are the same though, Boeser is good, but Guentzel is better…if you can get Guentzel for free and get some prime assets for Boeser, why wouldn’t you? Plus, this isn’t a “must trade Boeser at all costs”, its more of a gauge the value of Boeser because you’re going to have to pony up for him after next year and that might not be palatable, so it might be better to move on early at his highest value.

Because the team is lacking a top 6 RW and replacing a RW with a LW is just addition with subtraction. You'd still have to replace Boeser in the top 6. You'd also be paying Guentzel at UFA prices, so he won't come cheap. That's IF they can even sign him.

Disagree…they should at least be exploring a Boeser trade in the off season.

But this is a Lekkerimaki thread so I’ll digress.

I'd be seriously pumped to see Lekerimakki join D-Petey with the Abbotsford Canucks this season. This team needs an infusion of talent and grit.

And both guys could well be a big part of the parent Canucks future.

Don’t think he’ll be in Abby. Rest up after his season is done. Good chance he makes team Sweden at the World Championships in May. Then have a big summer. There’s a spot for him on the Hoglander-Pettersson line to take in training camp.

Guentzel plays both sides. Most wingers can

Uhh Guentzel is 29..
He will be 30 when he start his new contract next year. Boeser is about two and half years younger. Signing Guentzel to a 6 or 7 year contracts takes him to 36 or 37 which is not ideal tbh. The only free agents I would personally sign long term are ones that are younger like Hanifin and Forsling who would have been 27 and 28 when there new contracts kick in.

Man I wish we could draft someone like Forsling...

The '9 games' is only a thing for 18 and 19 year old CHL players. Lekkerimaki will be neither.

Whether he gets games *this* year is the big question.

Given the struggles of our power play, you have to think there is a chance we see Lekkerimaki. Not sure if it’s significant, but if the power play continues to struggle, he may be able to take a difference and would otherwise be sheltered at 5 on 5 play.

If he was the exact same player in the NCAA he would 100% be joining the NHL team. It's just that there are more options because he's already signed and coming from Europe.

We've looked much more dynamic offensively in the last couple games after really scuffling to score goals for a month, which might change things a bit.

My main concern would be throwing a skinny kid who already had a concussion last year into heavy playoff-style games to close out the season.

ELC slide rules affect everyone, not just CHL players. He’ll be too old for it to matter next year, but if he does get games this year, he shouldn’t get more than 9

Educate me. Would that burn a year of his ELC?

If they put him in the NHL this year I believe so, yes. Same as adding Boeser at the end of the 16-17 season at the same age.

The '9 games' thing really only happens generally with CHL players and maybe the odd rare Euro.

At the start of the year, yes. It’s a euro/college thing at the end of the year. If he gets 10 games this year, he’d burn a year of his ELC

I’m not sure it matters. Section 9.1(d) provides as follows:

(d) (i)
In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC with a Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season under that SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry Level System shall be extended for a period of one (1) year, except that this automatic extension will not apply to a Player who is 19 according to Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September 16 and December 31 in the year in which he first signs an SPC. Unless a Player and Club expressly agree to the contrary, in the event a Player's SPC is extended an additional year in accordance with this subsection, all terms of the SPC, with the exception of Signing Bonuses, but including Paragraph 1 Salary, games played bonuses and Exhibit 5 bonuses, shall be extended; provided, however, that the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary shall be extended in all circumstances.

Haven’t had a chance to review anything else.

I don't think it's 10 games in his situation. Boeser burned his ELC year in 16-17 playing only 9 games.

Given that the team is limited to four call-ups between the TDL and the end of the season—and Podkolzin has already been one—and that Silovs might be another call-up if Demko is banged up. I would be shocked if they use one of those last two call-ups on Lekkerimaki.

True. Although Pettersson played a full season in the NHL in his D2 and was a similar size I think.

I though Pods came before the deadline?
