So Buffalo's prospect chosen literally directly after him in the 2022 draft (ostlund) is scoring more than double him?

He just turned 18. He’s years away from making an impact so let’s be a little patient with him . And on what I’m reading from our insiders on twitter JL
Is playing a lot better and is hustling and is more engaged so I’m sure soon we will see a bump in his progression

But yea Ostlund is having one helluva season . Buffalo and what Kevin Adam’s has done there since Botterill was fired has been remarkable and the young core he had assembled in Peterka , Power , Quinn to go along with Dahlin , Cozens , Middlestadt , Samuelsson , Jokiiharju , Krebs etc with leaders in Thompson and Tuch leading the way .

Buffalo is light years ahead of us and are on the cusp of becoming a serious contender for the cup every single season . Not to mention they still have Matthew Savoie coming next year who reminds me a lot of Brayden Point and Devin Levi who has been scary good in college

Mattias Ohlund's PPG dropped for three consecutive seasons in the SEL following his draft. RJ Umberger's scoring dropped slightly in his D+1. Daniel Sedin's scoring plateaued in his D+1 while Henrik's increased. Jannik Hansen remained in a low-level league in his D+1 and was at a PPG pace in junior in his D+2. Ben Hutton's scoring dropped in Junior A in his D+1. Mason Raymond was so-so in the NCAA in his D+1. It happens quite often. I don't think Melvin's overall impulse is incorrect, but it needs to be fleshed out considerably.

Ohlund stepped up from tier 3 (The same level from which Alex Edler was drafted that articles about him used to refer to as being nearly a beer league) in his draft year to the elite league in his D+1 and then won Junior aged player of the year in his D+2 while winning an SHL championship and being named top defenseman at the WJHC. What are you talking about?

Umberger stayed steady despite his team having their second highest scorer (who had posted similar numbers the year before Umberger arrived as well) graduate out. Didn't blow up, but certainly had a reasonable year.

Daniel Sedin led the SHL playoffs in goals in his D+1 and in the regular season was second on his team in scoring behind his brother. Was third on the Men's WC team in points. Not really all that disappointing season, but probably didn't shoot out the lights either. They'd already set an extremely high level of play, though, and I don't know what you could really expect.

Hansen significantly improved his scoring in the Danish league, prompting Portland to use an import slot on him. Can't be considered all that disappointing considering he was drafted out of Denmark in a round that doesn't even exist anymore.

Hutton's PPG improved decently in his D+1 if you're talking about his draft year by age, so you're wrong there. If you mean the year after he was drafted by the Canucks, he wasn't playing Junior A, so you're wrong there as well. He went to the NCAA and led his team's D in scoring as a rookie.

Mason Raymond was second on his team in scoring as a true freshman, and made the WCHA all-rookie team. That's not really a "so-so" D+1 for a player taken outside the first round.

True, but it also isn't fair to compare a prospect taken a year earlier. The right pick IMO was Pickering at 15, but Lekkerimaki has high scoring potential, we just need him to have the drive and focus to get there.

I noticed Boucher's D+1 season was disappointing to start only putting up 2g1a in 17 NCAA games. By comparison, Lekkerimaki is having a better D+1

Will be a long while before we see him in North America.

Hope he improves enough this year to be a regular in SHL next year, then maybe another year in SHL or AHL.

When does his contract expire? If his team doesn't move up to the SHL I bet we see him in the AHL next season.

Djurgarden is currently 2nd in Allsvenskan. They'll get promoted back to SHL next year.

He's struggling. There's no doubt about that. But he was drafted for his potential, not where he is currently. Hoping for a strong second half when he hopefully ups his engagement and work rate.

Would put him right on schedule to hopefully give us an alternative to Boeser if we're looking to free up that cap space (if we don't move on from Boeser sooner).

I'm very concerned with this current management's ability to draft. Look at the Pens drafting record under Rutherford. It's atrocious. No noteworthy NHLers and only a couple guys who played a few games so far in the league mainly with other teams.

Pittsburgh Penguins Draft History at hockeydb.com
GMs dont draft.

Those pens shipped their 1st rounders to win 2 cups.
