I would def prefer time on a SHL club but I guess he's only going to be a 4 months older than Pettersson was when he ripped up the Allsvenskan, so if it truly means he's going to get unlimited first-line/first-unit PP play, then this is acceptable.

There are three other drafted players on Djugardens:
C Noah Ostlund (2022 16th OA) - Buffalo
LW Liam Ohgren (2022 19th OA) - Minnesota
D Calle Odelius (2022 65th OA) - NY Islanders

Guessing they will put Lekkerimaki on a line with Ostlund and Ohgren at some point just because they were drafted within 5 spots of each other and form a complete line, but get ready for everyone to be comparing the production of the three of them all season long if they start to go in different directions.

edit: looks like the three of them would have played together on the J20 Nationell team last year too:
5 players drafted in 2022 from that team - seems like a lot for a given year actually.

I listened to the reasoning from our new GM as to why we went with Lekkerimaki at 15. They had him rated higher; but basically said when you have a player that can score like him; you probably should pick him over other who may be a safer pick. I totally agree; (not exact quote) and although there are no guarantees he will live up to his potential. In fact if you could guarantee that; he probably would have gone in the top 5. This is the kind of pick you need to invest in, which is what I believe they are doing with our new development staff. They know his talents and his weaknesses; hopefully we are going to see him on the big club in a few years.

This kid is very skilled. He has a hard shot, skates well but is still physically immature. Not a straight line player either - thinks and processes the game.

This graphic isn't making up my mind or anything but I just feel like we got very lucky for Lekkerimaki to drop to 15.

Isn't Kemell similarly physically immature? He doesn't seem to have trouble excelling this tournament. Looking forward to see Ohgren, Ohgren and Lekkerimaki take the next step in '22, but was hoping that he would get more opportunityand exposure early in this event.

Kemell was on par (or better) as a prospect with Lekk all year.

But he blew him out of the water in the WJC.

The whole tourney was a f***ing disaster though so will take it with a grain of salt.

Even though Lekk did not look good. At all.

As I understand it, Lekkerimaki is eligible for the next two WJHC tournaments.....so obviously that must have made him one of the youngest players at this year's event. This is a very hard tournament for even the most talented 18-year olds to do much.

I guess the only players who were younger were draft-eligible players like Connor Bedard, and I don't think there were even a handful of those guys in this tournament.

Hes actually maxed out in physical ability, he's 5 foot 9.5 inches but 185lbs from the combine. If he gains anymore weight for his height, it will likely hinder his speed and stamina.

It's also one of the reasons he slipped, there isn't much room for growth on his physique.

Sounds like Hoglander.

Just some thoughts..

You can gain all sorts of strength related attributes, explosiveness, maximum strength, muscle endurance, range of motion etc without adding or removing weight.

Also you can add muscle and lose fat.

You can get leaner in one part and add the same weight to a muscle group more beneficial to hockey.

Also I don't think a 5,9 player is hard capped at 185 lbs.

They were and will likely continue to be regular linemates in Djurgarden. They apparently have great chemistry together.

Kemell plays a high motor skill game. It's much more mature than Lek's. That's always going to be the concern with this player. Can he up his level of engagement on a consistent basis so that he's not just a lurker with a great and deceptive release?

So its true that Lekkerimäki reached the fastest top speed during the tournament?
Yeah I've been wondering the same. The picture being wrong makes this a bit suspect.

Honestly watching this whole tournament, his speed WITH the puck was much slower than without the puck. I thought there were much faster players on Sweden while carrying the puck. Probably the fastest yet effective player was Fabian Lysell.

Did I read somewhere that Lekkerimaki was coming off mono at this year's WJHC? That might explain a lot. Basically takes 6-8 months to fully recover from mono.

There were two rushes in the tournament that I think that speed could have been captured from. I can upload them after my vacation, if you like. From memory, the PBP commented on one of them.

There is no way it's Wallinder, the guy in the photo. He is pretty slow.

Something about the timeline doesn't measure up for me, to use that as the main explanation. He had mono in late March. But had an absolutely monster U18 in late April. Mediocre in August...

However, the same thing happened to Couturier. Many on HF thought it might be regression rather than mono side effects, I did as well.

That arena looks like something Canadian 14 year old kids would play out of. Lekk with 2 assists? Would be nice to get a highlight package like this for all Djurgarden games. Thanks to whoever put it together.
