This guy is playing with three of the best game breakers in the league and only has 3 goals and 8 pts. Has been a healthy scratch already. If putting him on MacKinnons wing can’t get him going, I don’t think any NHL player can. I thought MacKinnon would have been able to get Jonathan back to form but it hasn’t happened. Drouin even saw #1PP time early in the season and was given every opportunity to flourish offensively next to MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar.

So is Drouin finished as an NHLer after this year? He’s not good enough to be a top six player and he’s not the right fit for a bottom six player. I can’t see any teams interested in him this summer. I think he retires or plays in another league.

Hope the Avs can upgrade him this summer and get MacKinnon a real winger. Shouldnt be difficult.

Lol, after that hit by Gilbert I can't imagine it can go any worse for him. He's actually still getting some PP1 time too. If you can't even scoop up incidental points on that unit, how much longer is your career gonna last...

It's okay Avs, Brown/McD failed in Edmonton too.

Knoblauch/McD has been off the charts successful though.

For players who are able to fill other roles. As a skilled guy whose one dimension is generating offense, no.

Yea, I would think there’s quite a few players who are not in the league or aren’t regulars who could score 24 points in the NHL if given the offensive opportunity. But they’re too inefficient relative to minutes/don’t bring enough outside of that to actually get those roles

I’m not sure if you’ve actually watched him play this season. While he’s not compiling points, he’s actually earned more opportunities under Bednar (which is the opposite of Tatar and Johansen) as he is actually forechecking and backchecking with effort.

He's been fine, and he has primarily played with the likes of Tomas "1 in 26" Tatar.

Drouin has improved from looking like a bottom tier echler into a legitimate AHL player as the season has gone on.

Drouin will get a contract in Europe next season.

He's actually been fine IMO.
I think Tatar and RyJo have been far more disappointing at significantly higher cost.
He isn't tallying up points, but his efforts have been better than expected and his playmaking potential still shows signs of life.
He just needs to keep putting in the work and continue to let the game come to him and not force it.

I sort of knew that when he sat out for unknown personal reasons during Montreal's cup run. Not pointing fingers, judging or belittling his issues at all what's so ever. I have no idea what his life is like and not here to judge. But at the same time, knowing that players play through bruises, broken bones and 1000's of other things, sitting out your teams cup run speaks volumes. Maybe some players just live and breathe hockey, and some don't. You cant really make it in nhl unless you are giving it your all. Having skills is one thing but surviving through the grind of 82 game season is another.
Whatever happens, no matter what stupid things people say, the dude made it to nhl! He should be damn proud of that. What could have been, should have been is yada yada yada at this point.

They should be announcing the suspension for Gilbert any moment now. What a dangerous play.

24 pts for a one-dimensional offensive player that gets PP opportunities is awful and not an NHLer.
With regards to his production on the PP in his defense when he is on PP1 he hardly touches the puck because it mostly moves between Mack, Makar and Mikko. When he is on PP2 it is also hard for him to get points because that unit is lucky to get 20 secs per PP opportunities so it is hard for him to get points there as well.

His production could certainly be better 5v5 but he has been playing a lot better in the last 10-15 games. He is much more engaged and creating scoring opportunities. RyJo and Tatar are much more of a problem on this team.
